Character name: Kushina Uzumaki
Fandom: Naruto
Timeline: Before idiot-hero protagonist of the series is growing in her womb
Age: Unclear, but I'm guesstimating her to be in mid twenties? Yeah.

Appearance:

Kushina is a woman well-known for her beauty.

Probably THE most notable feature about Kushina is her incredibly long, bright red hair. It reaches down to her calves (perfect length for a ninja, right?) with two long strands that frame her face. Her hair is parted to the left side and it's held back with a black hair-clip.

Her skin is very fair with a slight rose to her cheeks. Kishimoto has been crafty in his colorings of Kushina and we have yet to see her true eye color. For the sake of simplicity, and just picking a damn color, they are blue but a shade of a few levels darker than Minato's and Naruto's sky blue.

Her clothes are fairly simple. She wears a white, short-sleeved, high-collared shirt under a loose-fitting, dark green dress as well as some simple ninja sandals of the dark color.

She stands at 165 cm (5'4” for those of us in America) and weighs in at 47 kg (104 lbs, wtf with the tiny ninjas). Her build is slender but highly feminine, aka there is a nice chest and child-bearing hips under that dress.

Background

Kushina Uzumaki, born into a well-known clan of Uzushiogakure, lived most of her younger years being caught-up in ninja wars. At a young age she was sent to Konohagakure to become the second jinchuuriki (a demon container) of the Nine-Tailed Fox, and then enrolled in the village's Ninja Academy to become a shinobi. Her answer to the class, when asked to introduce herself, was a loud proclamation of her wanting to become the hokage. The first woman Hokage no less \o/

They laughed at her gall, as someone not originally from Konoha, to make such a statement, and the children began calling her 'Tomato' because of her round face and bright red hair. It was a nickname she didn't take too kindly, and she beat anyone half to death that called her so. With her fiery attitude and whipping red hair, she pummeled her bullies and was was given a different nickname; 'The Red Hot-blooded Habanero.'

Not long after arriving in Konoha, Kushina was taken by Kumogakure ninja that wanted to use her unique chakra for their own purposes. Not being the sort of girl to go without a fight, she did the only thing a woman could do in the Naruto manga and plucked her bright red hair and left it on the ground as a trail for someone to find her. After a long time of travel and no sign of rescue, Kushina began to give up hope. While nobody else could find her, Minato Namikaze -one of her fellow classmates, someone she thought was wimpy and girly, and ALSO HER KNIGHT IN SHINING...windbreaker?- noticed her hair right away and found her being led away from the village. Once he had rescued her from the Kumonin, he told her he was able to find her because he noticed her beautiful red hair right away.

Minato was no longer a pansy in her eyes, and instead, she saw him as a splendid ninja, someone that could make her dreams come true (lmao sap but it's cute shuddap). He was someone that loved the one thing she hated most about herself and changed her. From then on, Kushina was in love with Minato. <3

Once Kushina was finally told of why she had to move to Konoha, she was speechless about the idea of having the Kyuubi sealed inside her. With the consolation of the first jinchuuriki, Mito Uzumaki, she was comforted and eventually came to terms with it. The love of Mito and Minato helped her triumph over the fox, and she led a happy life even as a jinchuuriki, yaaaay. It's so happy but just wait 8|

As she got older, Kushina became famous for not only her clan name, but for her beauty, unique ninjutsu style, and skill in fuinjutsu. Eventually Kushina and Minato married and conceived a son. During her ten-month jinchuuriki pregnancy (SLKGJDGKISHI YOU KNOW WHERE TO HIT WHERE IT HURTS) they decided on the name "Naruto" -a name Kushina thought was beautiful- after the main character of Jiraiya's first book that possessed a will to never give up. The character of Jiraiya's book had a personality Kushina and Minato both wished their son would grow up to have.

IT GETS SAD NOW, JSYK

When it was time to give birth after those ten months 8|||||, complications made Kushina have to go into hiding in case the Kyuubi escaped the seal from her weakened state. Minato helped maintain the seal while ANBU kept watch outside of the area and the Third Hokage's wife, Biwako, and some random medic, Taji, handled the delivery. During Kushina's labor, Madara Uchiha slaughtered the ANBU keeping watch and snuck into the hiding place to kidnap a newborn Naruto while Minato was busy focusing on keeping the Kyuubi at bay and Kushina was too exhausted to move. Minato managed to save Naruto, but Kushina was taken by Madara and he released the Kyuubi from her body. Her life-force was incredibly strong from being awesome- I MEAN an Uzumaki and while other jinchuuriki would die from having a bijuu extracted, she managed to survive. Madara attempted to have the Nine-Tails kill her, but she was saved by Minato at the last moment, thereafter he brought her to Naruto. She had no idea why he would do so when the village was in danger, but she remained with Naruto while Minato left to defend the village.

Once Minato had brought the Kyuubi to Kushina and Naruto, she offered herself as a sacrifice in dragging the Kyuubi along with her death. The trauma of having such a beast being removed from her body was causing her to slowly die. This way, Minato and Naruto could both survive and Naruto could have a parental figure. However, Minato suggested the Dead Demon Consuming Seal instead to seal half of the Kyuubi's chakra and then seal the rest of it into Naruto. Kushina was completely against this idea as she wanted Naruto to have someone to raise him and not have to bear the burden of being a jinchuuriki alone. He sealed half of the Kyuubi's chakra into his own body, and then told Kushina he could seal her chakra and his into Naruto so they could meet him when he was older. In the end, Kushina agreed when the Kyuubi started attacking Naruto from realizing their plan. Minato and Kushina both used their own bodies to protect Naruto, and she told Minato that he had won his first ever argument with her.

With the last of his strength, and after some heartfelt advice to Naruto from Kushina about life, he sealed the rest of her chakra into their son.

THEN AFTER BASICALLY THE ENTIRE NARUTO MANGA...

Sixteen years after Minato, Kyuubi, and Kushina were sealed into Naruto (it's a damn party) she reunited with her son while he was trying to gain control of the Kyuubi. When the demon was about to overwhelm Naruto with his hatred, mommy Uzumaki appeared and saved her baby boy from going to the dark side. Of course, Naruto was/is? an idiot and first believed that his mom was Kyuubi's true form, Kushina laughed loudly until he wouldn't shut up about her being a demon fox and she hit him while shouting 'dattebane.' It's touching, really.

After she apologized for her short temper and confessed she hoped he hadn't picked up her habit of saying nonsense words ie: DATTEBAYO, Naruto was actually quick on the uptake this time and cried and hugged his mommy and said he always wanted to meet her.

The tender moment was put to a screeching halt for a moment when they realized Kyuubi was still a threat, so Kushina used her epic chains to hold Kyuubi -who is surprised at her presence- down so her and Naruto can have a nice chat. He basically told her he thought she was hot and he liked her hair, which she thought was normal and she thanked him. Naruto asked about how his parents fell in love like any regular derp, and she got flustered a bit but finally told him the MinaKushi love story which I am not going to rewrite.

When the story was over she gave Naruto the best confession of the whole manga I AM NOT LYING.

Kushina's love gave Naruto the strength to persevere and overcome Kyuubi's hatred, and with a little help from mommy he managed to defeat the Kyuubi with thousands of rasengans to the fox's face. With the demon weak, Naruto finally managed to absorb his chakra, only to turn into a human torch.

When all was said and done, Kushina was proud of her son and she interrupted him before he could ask her if she was staying. She said she could finally join Minato, but not yet. Naruto is told about the true story of his birth and it's just as sad as what was imagined. Probably even more sad.

Before Kushina left forever sob, she apologized for putting such a heavy burden on him. Naruto responded by saying that he didn't blame either his mother or father for anything and he was happy to be their son because he was loved. He gave Kushina the best smile ever and she thanked him through tears for letting her and Minato be his parents, and for him being their son while she reached out to hug him again.

She faded away right before she could give him one last hug because KISHI IS EVIL.

Kind of a long history for a character that's shown up twice overall.

Personality:

Naruto Uzumaki, it is told, got his personality from his mother, Kushina.

One can only guess that Kushina is a bit loud, enthusiastic, and a bit of a prankster based on that small bit of information. While all true, her loudness is present when she's worked up, as explained when she shouted and hit Naruto for calling her the Kyuubi. Other than that, she's a strong-willed female with the guts to never give up (her favorite phrase being 'don't give up until the end'); a female version of Naruto, truly. Hers and Naruto's similarities hold true even in their favorite food; RAMEN. She might have made her own mean bowl, as she was a good cook and Minato liked her cooking the most.

She's described as a tomboy by Jiraiya, and her hobbies include chattering so she's social, and pulling pranks would allude to a mischievous sort of nature. Yet she grew up to be a beautiful woman, infamous for her beauty.

Growing up in an era of war caused her to seek for a daily “peace” so she's amicable with those around her and would rather find compromise than confrontation. However, if her loved ones are in danger, she won't hesitate to fight back or sacrifice herself if it means saving someone precious to her, namely her family.

From her initial perception of Minato being a PANSY she used to judge people by outward appearances and what they portray before getting to know them. That is a time passed, and she usually gets to know someone before making reservations. In most cases. If you wear a mask and you stole the Kyuubi from her you are a prick and she hates you forever.

She is willing to make friends because of her warm personality but still tries to keep who her real friends are and aren't separated, advice from herself but really to Naruto. She isn't afraid to speak her mind, much like she had shouted to the whole class, on her first day there, she wanted to be the first female Hokage. She isn't afraid to stand up for herself either (beating up bullies) and one of her friends, Mikoto Uchiha, considered her fearless.

Except when it came to childbirth. She heard it hurts a lot.

If one thing's for certain, Naruto definitely picked up his hot-temper and his catchphrase 'dattebayo' from Kushina. Whom spouts a very similar 'dattebane' when she's worked up, born from her impatience and fast talking. This random word will slip out when she's flustered, excited, angry, etc etc about something and can be loosely translated to a rougher dialect and sometimes unnecessary cursing other times 'y'see'. Being part of the Uzumaki clan means she has plenty of energy to spare and not to mention bright red hair. It's the same hair that Minato Namikaze had followed to rescue her when she was kidnapped, and she likes to refer to it as her 'red thread of fate.' While at first she hated her hair because it caused people to pick on her, she eventually learned to love it because it had led her to soulmate. Upon rescuing her, he had told her it was beautiful, opening her eyes to how wonderful a person, and ninja, he really was.

THUS, true love.

There's been a few instances where she's said some dense things like calling/thinking Sasuke was a girl when he was a newborn and talking about having her baby out in the open after being specifically told not to. But she's not stupid. It's more likely that her mouth gets in front of her intentions and she's unable to stop them when they're already out in the open. Her quick-temper is probably a factor in that as well. As is with anyone though, she can be serious when she needs to be and it is demanded of her.

She becomes particularly fierce when her family is in danger.

Lastly, Kushina is incredibly hard-headed and stubborn; she hates to lose. It's mentioned that Kushina won every argument her and Minato had been in before their final argument during the sealing of the Kyuubi into their newborn son. The only reason she gave in is because she realized how serious Minato was about it and there wasn't much more to do after becoming kyuubi-claw kabobs. ;;
