For a while I was trying hard to suppress a surprising envy because I think they're referring to this situation as a polyamorous arrangement.
Actually we don't tend to think of it or refer to it that way, for the reasons you mention. (Actually...I don't think we call it anything in particular, except "not-doneness." :P)

I do go back and forth on that, I admit. But mostly I really want it all and don't feel inclined to be impatient and go for just the sex. I don't really know that anyone could do "just the sex" good enough for me to feel fulfilled with that right now anyway."
You're not the only one who goes back and forth on that. At one point quite recently I was doing nothing but the sex. It was like comfort eating, but burning off calories rather than piling them on! ;p I'm in a place now where I'm happy to deal with relationships as well as just FWBs, and I'm certainly more happy now being intimate with someone in a loving way rather a "mere" lusting way - a combination of the two is always good IMHO. ;)
