Heya, not a problem - the more communication, the more ideas. :)

I didn't suggest moving to AO3 because I don't know how that works. I know at some point I read their guidelines for accepting an archive, and they were pretty strict in terms of accepting popular fandoms, but then they accepted HASA, so I'm not sure these rules are still in place.

I think that for HASA author permissions were asked, but for example, for Yuletide Treasure, they just imported the works in and I got a notification in my email to go and review if everything was okay. I don't recall if there was anything about eventually removing or orphaning the works but it's likely there was. I know fandom is quick to be angered, but personally, I wouldn't be shocked if a story of mine at OEAM were archived that way - I already gave permission for archiving, so the archivist can take it if a move in platform is needed. There's the problem of long-gone authors. It's a shame to lose old stories but many people have left fandom and do not check their old email accounts any more.

I'm with you with stories of mine I posted to some archive. As far as I know you also give the website/archive owner that right when you post there, although I'm not familiar with rules and terms and legal stuff and such. ;o) Still, it's usually considered only polite to ask permission, and I would always do that if possible.
Generally, I think the assumption is that with people who have left fandom and left their work behind, it is acceptable to move their stories when an archive moves.

If AO3 is an option for you, Alex, we could look into those points - see if it's at all possible, see what possible issues are with authors no longer in fandom, and so on.

There is something else that just occured to me. Is taking on another fandom also an option? I'm thinking of Harry Potter, as several Tolkien authors I know also write in this fandom, slash most of those, and perhaps that might add some new activity.

I'm no longer writing in the fandom, and my stories were never very popular, but I'd be happy to add them.
