Hey Alex,

Sorry to read this.

I am tired of trying to revive a dead horse.I KNOW!!! I felt like that for a long time at the LoM. Changing to self-upload increased traffic a wee bit, but that has dwindled down to its normal again. Truth is, there are many self-upload LotR sites out there that have kept a presence with challenges and stuff we don't do as well. Also, we lost a lot of trust after the two events with the hackers. But, whenever I felt like throwing the towel, a wave of support would come. People don't want to see the old sites die. The OEAM is for many people their mothership in fandom, just as the LoM is for others. Personally, I wouldn't want to see it go, but I totally understand if you feel too tired ( ... )

I'm with you with stories of mine I posted to some archive. As far as I know you also give the website/archive owner that right when you post there, although I'm not familiar with rules and terms and legal stuff and such. ;o) Still, it's usually considered only polite to ask permission, and I would always do that if possible.
Generally, I think the assumption is that with people who have left fandom and left their work behind, it is acceptable to move their stories when an archive moves.

If AO3 is an option for you, Alex, we could look into those points - see if it's at all possible, see what possible issues are with authors no longer in fandom, and so on.

#1 would be terribly sad. We've lost so many archives that were LotR-centric, and OEAM is a treasure trove - so many old fics by authors who have moved on and deleted websites and journals. As Tal says, it's been so many people's home. Another piece of our fandom history would die instead of adapting and continuing ( ... )

No permission is asked by Ao3, the site owners of HASA did give a heads up about it though.

When the HASA transfer to AO3 was completed, I got an e-mail saying that my HASA stories had moved there and that they were up at AO3 now. *searches for the e-mail*

You're receiving this e-mail because you had works in a fanworks archive that has been imported by Open Doors into the Archive of Our Own (AO3). Because this e-mail address is connected to one registered on the imported archive, the associated fanworks (listed below) have been automatically added to your AO3 account.

These were all reviewed HASA stories, they are locked for public for now (until I have the time to sit down and figuring out what to do with them:

Depending on the archive, your works may have been imported restricted to registered users only (to keep them out of Google searches). If this is the case, the works will only be accessible by logged-in users unless you choose to make them fully visible. For help unlocking, orphaning, or deleting your works, please ( ... )

You're right about #3 and AO3; in my answer above I didn't take that sufficiently into consideration. Which would change my personal preference back to #3 and not to AO3.

I like what the rest of them had to say. I think that moving OEAM to A03 would be great if it can be done. I love the stories on OEAM and it would be a shame to lose them. I already donate to A03 once a year to keep that site running. I would hate to see all that work that everyone did throughout the years be gone. Hope things work out.
