Summary: Vala's back. Daniel doesn't know what he's doing.
It was one thing to resolve to talk to her when-if-she came back, to resolve to tell her how he felt, even if he wasn’t entirely sure about it himself. Of course, it was an entirely different thing to act on that decision with her back and acting-almost-like normal.
“Daniel, whatcha doing?”
He made a strangled noise and dropped the book he was reading, turning to his office door where she stood. “If you must know, translating.”
“Translating what?” she asked, sidling in.
“Nothing.”
She leaned over, resting her elbows on the table to peer at the book he had retrieved.
“Argh!” he said eloquently, throwing the book down again.
She made a clicking sound with her tongue. “Why all this anger?”
“Because!” he turned to face her.
She frowned slightly, straightening up, but saying nothing.
“I can’t go on like this! We can’t go on like this!”
“Fine,” she said, shrugging and turning. “I’ll go talk to Sam instead.”
“No.” He stood. “Vala, that’s not what I meant.”
She turned in his door, resting one arm on the doorframe, placing her other hand on her hip. “Oh? Then what did you mean?”
“I-” He crossed the room in a few quick steps so that he stood in front of her, looking down at her.
She blinked up at him, just a little apprehensively. “Daniel?”
And then, just like that, he was kissing her. And it felt good. Mistake! his mind cried at him. His eyes snapped open and he pulled back.
“What’s the matter?” she asked. “Didn’t like that?”
“I, uh,” he said intelligently.
She rolled her eyes. “I came to see if you wanted to have lunch, if you weren’t too busy with something else.”
“Oh,” he said, stepping back. “Right. Um, sure.”
She turned, striding out of his office, a large smile on her face.
