1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
Fandom: The Mivtsa
Character: Nira Mindel
Song: Lullaby, The Scarlet Pimpernel
Having a child changed everything. Before, she could risk her life. Now, she has to worry about what will happen to her daughter if she dies.
Fandom: Firefly
Character: Inara Serra
Song: What Hurts the Most, The Rascal Flatts
She'd never had to skirt around the question of love. It wasn't even an option. She was a Companion; love was not involved. Except. Except. Except when she wasn't with a client. Then, somehow, her barriers had failed her, and she hadn't noticed. Hadn't noticed until it was much too late, that is. So she did what she had to do--for both of them. She'd gotten in too deep, but she could get out. She knew that she could extract herself completely from the situation, and while that might not solve anything, while that might be running away, she might at least save him. Because he didn't need her there to complicate things even further.
So she jerks back as he tries to touch her and turns away. The action might hurt her a little, but if she allowed him to touch her, to have that kind of intimacy, even for a moment, the consequences would be far greater.
Fandom: Star Wars
Character: Tenel Ka Chume Ta' Djo
Song: Mad World, Ah Sang
She wonders if this is what it was like before she was born, back when the Empire had control of everything. That had always seemed like a desperate time to live, those she could never say for sure how she was supposed to gage that. But now it seems much, much worse. These are people she knows--her people, or people she grew up with, or people she loves (But she can't think about that. She just can't.). She knows she'll be able to stand it, she has to, at least for her daughter's sake, but she's not going to enjoy any of it, and if she cries to herself at night, well, there is no one there to hear her.
Fandom: Real Person Fic (my first ever!)
People: Ben Browder, Claudia Black
Song: Hey, Why Not!, Sugar
It's stupid and crazy, but when they're on set, they don't even think about that. It's a different world, and not even because of the puppets and the aliens they're interacting with. It's a different world in a way that they can't really explain, but that doesn't matter, anyway. So that heady, optimistic feeling that they get when they kiss is very easily explained. And, after all, there's nothing to explain, really. It's just great chemistry, that's all. Great chemistry.
Fandom: Anna and the King
Character: Anna Leonowens
Song: Easy As Life, Aida
The sun is hot on her face as she stands on the deck, looking back at Siam. Louis wants to know again why they have to leave, but she doesn't have the strength to explain to him again why, when the explanations are so much more complicated than any answer she could give him, and when she doesn't even know. Instead of trying to answer him again, she fans herself silently and presses her lips together. She is not going to come back, ever. She knows that, and she wants one last look at this place where she felt at home, if only for this short, precious time. Then she will forget.
Fandom: Arthurian Legend
Characters: Morgan le Fay, Arthur Pendragon, Guinevere
Rating: R
Song: Vivre Comme Un Fou, Tristan & Yseult
It is a stupid, foolish idea that sends her to her brother's room (her brother, the king) at night, but she does not care. (It's only in the daylight when she has to face Guinevere that it seems to matter.) All she wants is to feel his rough hands (he's a king who works) against her breasts and to kiss the soft sweetness of his wife (his wife, the queen). And maybe later they will fight about this. And maybe later Guinevere will never be able to look her in the eye again. And maybe later she will regret everything. But later doesn't matter. It's about now; it's about this force that they all feel and the passion and the feel of two heartbeats beside her.
Fandom: The Chronicles of Narnia
Character: Susan Pevensie
Rating: R
Song: Aslan's Theme, The Chronicles of Narnia (TV Series)
Sometimes, she sees the flash of a mane when she is dreaming.
You can't come back, he told her and her brother, but he'd been looking at her.
She knew why. He'd come to her in the night, and tried to put his tongue between her legs, and she'd wanted nothing to do with it.
She couldn't come back because he wanted her and she wanted her brother.
Fandom: NCIS
Character: Ziva David
Song: License to Kill, Gladys Knight
She respects him first. That's easy to do, because he has a confidence about him, even when she thinks he's wrong. And when it turns out he's right, she respects him even more, because he accepts who she is and who Ari is. She doesn't lie to him anymore, and he accepts that and dismisses it. He's not going to judge her by her past.
She likes him later, after she gets the chance to watch him. He treats her like he would treat anyone else--in public. But she knows, and more importantly he knows, that liking and respect grew into something else.
She's hesitant to name it, and she can't figure out when or why things changed.
Fandom: His Dark Materials
Character: Will Parry
Song: How Can I Not Love You, Joy Enriquez
Moving on is hard. It helps that they promised they would, but only a little bit. Many days, he would rather wallow in his pain than move on with his life. Mary helps a lot, in that respect. She drags him out of bed and nags him about his mother and school and life until he wants to pull his hair out, and then she makes him tea and lets him talk. He doesn't say a lot, and most of it she already knows, but it helps.
He sees Lyra everywhere. in crowds he turns and looks at the honey-gold of someone's hair to find that it was just reflecting light and shadows at him and that it is not her at all. He'll probably see her like that forever, and some days that's all right.
Fandom: Everworld
Character: April O'Brien
Song: Toat, Tori Amos
April misses the real world. She knows she chose Everworld, and she's perfectly fine with that. She still feels justified in missing the real world, though, especially when Christopher is so vocal with his complaints. She's quieter about it, not really telling anyone, just acknowledging the loss to herself. She gave up a lot to come to Everworld. She's also different than Christopher because it's the little things that she misses--books, burnt toast, the smell of incense in an air-conditioned room.
She lets it go.
