I'm friends with Mumford & Sons superfans (and even accompanied them to a show once), but I don't understand the music when sober. Is that the secret to their success? That dudebros are never sober?

I don't know... I like their recorded stuff sober. To me, they're also part of that romantic resurgence (with all their talk of heart and soul), though their lyrics are much more simple (one might even say simplistic) than Frightened Rabbit's. It's folk on speed, which is also seductive.

How are they live? (I missed both their shows here because they were sold out before I had the chance to get a ticket.)

I saw them in the beginning of 2009 in a tiny venue and they were very good. They're interesting to watch since there's so much going on instrumentally.

I think I'm mainly bothered by the fact that I don't feel anything when I listen to their music, and I know that I should be feeling something... and that's probably a matter of personal preference. I'm a fan of simple and romantic, though.

My music listening habits are all over the place right now, so I probably wouldn't listen to me! P.S. How are you?

Maybe you don't feel anything because you're conscious that "Love, it will not betray you, dismay or enslave you, it will set you free, make you more like the man you were meant to be" are ridiculous lyrics.

I like all over the place. What are some of the things you've been listening to this past year?

I'm pretty good. Just waiting to hear if my thesis is accepted while looking for a job. Been sick way too often already this winter. And you?

But I like Best Coast (and she is the queen of ridiculous lyrics)! I think the whole rich-British-kids-idolizing-Steinbeck thing is a turn-off, but the music is good... I don't know, I'm conflicted, haha.

Right now I'm really into the new El Guincho and Crocodiles albums. The middle of the year was pretty much devoted to Robyn and Foals' new stuff, and the beginning of the year was all about Heartland and Basia Bulat. Boring and predictable? I feel like I spent more time hating stuff that was released this year, haha. The best concert I went to was a Klaxons show, hands down. I also started going to an indiepop night every month, so I've been visiting the twee bit of my music library pretty regularly.

I'm okay, I guess. I'm also aggressively job hunting (the worst thing!) and I'm poorer than previously thought possible, but it could be worse. We should be electronic pen-pals or something!

I don't know El Guincho, and am just barely acquainted with Crocodiles and Foals (but like what I've heard). I have to say that, for the most part, I don't really like Robyn. I'm such a bad gay!! But she's someone whose lyrics I find just a little bit too ridiculous. Basia's pretty good. I saw her live once (opening for Owen when he was still Final Fantasy, actually) and she charmed me. I wouldn't have before, but maybe I'll go see Klaxons if they pass by now, all thanks to your recommendation.

Job hunting is the worst! Even worse than apartment hunting, but only by this much.

Aren't we already electronic pen pals? Did I tell you that I have a bus ticket to NYC that I need to use before September? I just need to find a reason to go (like a particular dance show or somethin')...

Ugh, I *love* El Guincho. His last album was more technically impressive but the new one is doing a good job of fighting away the gloom. I can't properly describe the music, so this is my current jam -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CreEuaS8QY (Warning: Boobs, Spanish hipsters, etc ( ... )
