I'm friends with Mumford & Sons superfans (and even accompanied them to a show once), but I don't understand the music when sober. Is that the secret to their success? That dudebros are never sober?
I don't know... I like their recorded stuff sober. To me, they're also part of that romantic resurgence (with all their talk of heart and soul), though their lyrics are much more simple (one might even say simplistic) than Frightened Rabbit's. It's folk on speed, which is also seductive.
How are they live? (I missed both their shows here because they were sold out before I had the chance to get a ticket.)
I saw them in the beginning of 2009 in a tiny venue and they were very good. They're interesting to watch since there's so much going on instrumentally.
I think I'm mainly bothered by the fact that I don't feel anything when I listen to their music, and I know that I should be feeling something... and that's probably a matter of personal preference. I'm a fan of simple and romantic, though.
My music listening habits are all over the place right now, so I probably wouldn't listen to me! P.S. How are you?
Maybe you don't feel anything because you're conscious that "Love, it will not betray you, dismay or enslave you, it will set you free, make you more like the man you were meant to be" are ridiculous lyrics.
I like all over the place. What are some of the things you've been listening to this past year?
I'm pretty good. Just waiting to hear if my thesis is accepted while looking for a job. Been sick way too often already this winter. And you?
Your year-end lists are one of my favourite things. Thanks for posting this.
I finally watched A Single Man just last week, and you're right, I can't remember the score either. I'll have to check it out, as well as most of the stuff on this list.
Will you be making a list of best films? Hoping you'll say yes. :)
Whoa. Well, I can't really say anything because I haven't been journaling all that much either, but I hope you won't disappear completely. Do you have a different blog/website/account you'll be using later on?
