Dear Festividder

Oct 24, 2014 18:27

Hello lovely Festividder!

First of all, thank you so much for making me a vid!  I'm so delighted and full of joy to know you're going to make any kind of vid in one of these fandoms, I can't tell you.  So no need to stress whatsoever, I'm really easy - as long as you're making the vid you want to make, the thing that made you offer this fandom in the first place, I'll be happy.

However, if you're the kind of person who likes a bit more to go on, I've talked some more about why I love each of these sources under the cut (this year with trailers videos for the curious).  I tend to focus on the positive cos that's the way my brain works, but I do love critical or contemplative vids as well - if there's something in one of these sources you want to critique, go for it!  Or if you want to do something joyful and celebratory or something completely daft or something bittersweet and poignant or something else altogether, I say go for any of those too.  Basically, you can't go wrong here.

Music: anything!  And I really mean that, I have very broad and open-minded tastes and don't want to restrict you in any way - if it works for the vid, it works for me.  I did say in my requests that I'd prefer not a song from the sources themselves, but if you've had a great idea along those lines I'm always open to persuasion, ignore me and use whatever music you want.

Death in Paradise [TV]
[the trailers on YT are all pretty terrible at capturing the joy of the show, so here, have a cute 'Meet the Cast' video instead.]

This show for me is sunshine in the depths of winter - a fun, joyous, adorable show that never fails to cheer me up.  Camille is my everything.  <3  But I love the whole cast - yes, including both Richard and Humphrey - so whoever or whatever you want to focus on is fab with me.

Eric & Ernie (2011) [TV] - SAFETY
[no trailer, but you can actually watch all 90 minutes of this BAFTA award-winning* drama on YT if you're so inclined...]

I love the joy and warmth and nostalgia of this film so much. A Sadie vid would be amazing, or Eric & Ernie and their partnership? (If you want to incorporate a bit of footage of the real Eric & Ernie for any reason that would be cool, though definitely not required!)

This is...probably the most random request I've ever made for Festivids, so I kind of feel the need to explain it a bit!  Thing is, I adore Victoria Wood to pieces; and I love Morecambe and Wise, unironically and unapologetically somewhat apologetically.  They were a huge part of my childhood, and I've been on a bit of a M&W kick ever since Eddie Braben died last year, which in turn led to me rediscovering this particular piece of joy - and watching it far, far too many times to be strictly healthy.

Aside from Victoria Wood as Sadie (AMAZING) and the uncanny M&W performances (the kid playing young Eric blows my mind), the thing I really love is that there's so much more going on in this than appears on the surface - it's about class, it's about the early days of television and the dying days of variety, it's about family and friendship and identity, and it's about showbusiness as a job like any other, which you do because you need to earn money and you aren't much good at anything else (which is a rare enough approach to be refreshing).  And it ends with a 'what do you think of it so far?' gag before 'Positive Thinking' kicks in.  <3  SO much love.

(*I discovered today that Daniel Rigby beat Benedict Cumberbatch, Matt Smith and Jim Broadbent to the Best Actor award in 2011 for playing Eric.  Thoroughly deserved.)

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers [Movie]
[no trailer, so have one of my favourite Fred & Ginger numbers]

Something fun, or something floaty and lovely.  The chemistry between Fred and Ginger brings me so much joy, not just in their dancing - though, you know, mainly in their dancing - but in all their scenes together. Something looking at that across the movies would be great, but if you want to focus on just one, Swingtime, Shall We Dance and Top Hat are my favourites.

Maid Marian and Her Merry Men [TV]
[awesome random musical number from the greatest of all kids' shows ('life's a masochistic party!').  have a dollop of childhood nostalgia with the end credits as well]

Oh, childhood show of my heart.  Marian is particularly fabulous but so much love for the whole gang and just the whole look and feel and madcap zaniness of the show. I love it to pieces but can't take it too seriously, so something ridiculous or off the wall would really work for me here. But if you want to take it seriously, that's good too. :D I love how tough and smart Marian is and how she never stops trying to be a hero despite being surrounded by incompetents who don't understand her vision.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (2012) [TV]
[an actual trailer!  that doesn't suck!  \o/]

DOT.  My love for Dot knows no bounds - but this is another one of those shows where I love every little bit of it.  Phryne, Jack, Hugh, Dr Mac, Mr Butler, Bert & Cess…you want to focus on any or all of them and I'll be happy!  I do love Dot & Hugh together, and Phryne/Jack flirting is my happy place - I don't really ship it, I just want them to keep flirting forever and ever - but I also kind of see the femslash potential with Phryne/Dot, so basically…anything.  /so helpful

Nashville US (2012) [TV]
[US trailer]

My heart belongs to Juliette in this show - I don't always love her or approve of her, but she's always utterly compelling to me - but I do love Rayna as well, and actually all of the characters really grew on me in the second season, so if you want to focus on someone else that's fab too.  A character study maybe, or something ensembly with all the great women in this show and their love of music would be great.
I don't have any strong feelings about ships in this show, so no worries if you want to include any of the canon ships or not.  I should hopefully (*crosses fingers*) be caught up on US pace by the time Festivids goes live, but I'm not bothered about spoilers even if I don't manage to, so feel free to use Season 3 or not as you want.

Strictly Ballroom (1992) [Movie]
[trailer]

I have nothing really to add to the original request here: the joy of dancing and the daftness of life/family/ballroom competitions/everything else please!  Love the tone and feel and bonkersness of this movie.

Strictly Come Dancing [TV]
[2013 trailer - though if you aren't familiar with it, it's the British 'Dancing with the Stars']

This show is just pure happiness for me - sometimes feels like the only thing that gets me through winter.  I love all of it, from the terrible costumes to the bad puns to the panto judges to the contrived ridiculousness of it all and the GLIH-AH. (<3 Alison)  But most of all I love the dancing, both the good and the bad - would love an upbeat vid maybe, that captures the joy and emotion of dancing (whether you're any good at it or not).  As I said in my sign up, I know decent footage can be hard to get hold of though, so I will love anything at all you can come up with.
