How much do I love my new sewing machine?

Sorry for anyone who saw this without a cut - posted early by accident!

Had a fabulous fannish weekend with lovely fannish people (annual Chryedian panto weekend), so of course I had to make a new fannish handbag for the occasion.

Seriously, my new sewing machine I got for Christmas is the greatest thing ever - I tried to make a similar satchel with much thinner fabric on my old machine and it was a disaster. I broke two needles and the whole thing went completely wobbly and lopsided. Sewing on the new one is just a dream - was able to make this with thick, sturdy fabric so it's very solid and durable and really feels like a satchel, standing up on its own.

Speaking of fannish weekends, I see registration for VidUKon is open! Part of me is really, really tempted to go - I love small cons, I love vids, I can actually make the dates for the first time ever, and the people involved do seem pretty welcoming (as much as you can ever tell from the internet!) but...

...on the other hand, I am a lurking lurker who lurks and probably wouldn't know a soul there before going. Which might not necessarily be a problem and I've sort of done it before - I went to a few small Harry Potter cons years and years ago, before they started getting huge and expensive, and I never knew anyone else there before going either - but at least I wrote fic back then and was at least partially involved in the fandom in that way. Plus, even though the *cons* were fairly small, the actual fandom was beyond huge so it was always likely I wouldn't be the only person there who didn't know anyone! And I'm pretty sociable in real life and enjoy meeting new people - I always had fun and made some great new friends that way.

But the vidding community - which is, granted, not something I know a huge amount about - seems to be fairly small and closeknit, and I wouldn't want to go along and end up feeling like I was crashing a private party. It's just a bit of an unknown, and it's a lot of money to spend on something I'm not sure about. Plus there's no way I could afford it without a roommate and am not entirely sure how I'd find one...

Hmm. Don't suppose anyone reading this is thinking of going? :)

Oh, and I am still way, way behind on my festivids watching, but am determined to at least get through the fandoms I know before Reveals, if not the others!
