So, I had every intention of doing a
festivids recs post - just as I had every intention of doing a
yuletide recs post - and you know what? I'm never going to get around to either, though for different reasons. So this will have to do. :)
For
festivids, I'm not doing a recs post because all the vids are just so good. I'm really blown away by the quality - even the less technically-able vids (and I'm including my own in that, I still consider myself a newbie at vidding) have something to recommend them, be it rhythm or joy or concept or love of the source. So although I have my favourites, they're mostly my favourites because I know and love the source in each case rather than because of the skill involved. All the vids are brilliant and you should
watch them all if you haven't already.
That said, before the reveal I just have to say a huge thank you to the wonderful person who made my gorgeous gift vid -
You Belong With Me, a Lois and Clark vid. I love this fandom to bits and the vid is just so sweet and lovely and adorable and makes me want to watch the show all over again. It takes a song I never would have thought of and does something really clever with it, turning it on its head to look at that unique love triangle between Lois, Clark and Superman - he's jealous of himself! - and it's fantastic. Thank you, mystery vidder! Everyone go and watch it, even if you barely remember the show.
For
yuletide however, I'm not doing a recs post because I've barely made a dent in the archive so far. Real life's been insanely busy recently and the little spare time I have had I've been writing original fiction or vidding. I've read my gift fic (3 times) and a few others in my favourite fandoms, but that's pretty much it. Which is a shame because the only reason I wanted to do a rec post was in order to shout from the rooftops that the gift I got this year was AWESOME:
Woo The Day, a Maid Marian and Her Merry Men fic by
alyse. It's a perfect Yuletide fic; brilliant, funny and beautifully in-character, with enraged hedgehogs and frozen grandmothers and gravel chocolates and GLADYS and duck ponds... It's like the show, but in prose. And it's my prompt. And it's brilliant. Did I mention that?
So, all in all, a fantastic year anonymous gift exchange-wise. :) However far I may drift from fandom, I'll definitely be doing both again next year!
