Why is it that fried food tastes so good and is so bad for you? I rarely fry anything, and that's not going to change. But there's just something to that crisp bite...

In 1966 I was a high school freshman, 14 years old, and I got my very first pair of contact lenses. They were tinted light blue (so I could see them in their case) and they were very stiff, inflexible plastic. I blinked and my eyes watered and it took forever to get used to them, but I did it. I have telling myself for a couple of weeks that I need to get back to the gym. I've been cleared by my surgeon and my physical therapist, and my back hurts again and my stomach muscles are letting go... I'm not gaining weight, but I am getting fat. Changing shape. It's deja vu all over again, but I am once again grounded by shoulder surgery. On Tuesday Paul and I arrived at Unity Health Systems and they smoothly checked me in. I have a cold. It kind of snuck up on me. Normally, when I get a cold, it starts with soreness in the back of my nose and within a couple of hours I'm in full-blown cold-mode. I got up Monday and today at 5:30 AM. I dressed in my workout clothes, ate some toast and cashew butter, hoisted my bag with my pre-packed work clothing and makeup onto my shoulder and stepped out into the quiet pre-dawn dark.
