Hollywood Babylon

A very weird episode, it ranged from laugh out loud funny to dull to goddamnscary to eh? through all points in between. I think this is an episode that needs multiple viewings to spot all the gags and one liners. I preferred this to Tall Tales if only because Sam and Dean seemed to be more like themselves. Though I can't say I loved it as a whole, there were definitely things to love.

Not an erudite piece of exposition this time but a short list of things that made me smile.

Loved Sam' s expression at the reference to Gilmore Girls. I actually loved a lot of Jared's reaction shots in this episode. They really sold the humour.

Sam: It's practically Canadian. Rain in LA? It happens all the time in movies and on tv shows BUT it never rains in LA!

Dean: You know nothing of your cultural heritage, do you? I love that each brother has an area of expertise and they don't seem to overlap. Consequently there is bafflement with each other over lack of expected knowledge.

I love how Sam and Dean interact when talking about Tara Benchly. Sigh at Dean's reaction to thoughts of Tara. Sigh again, just for emphasis. Dean: I'm a fan of her work. She's very good. Yeah right!

Brad, studio exec, complains about the darkness and lack of colour in the movie. Perhaps they hear this a lot at Supernatural? I enjoy the tonal range the show works in, it really adds to the atmosphere. Sadly Gary Cole doesn't last too long into the ep. Sniffle.

Dean is mistaken for a PA and then he starts assuming the role and boy is he good at his job! PA!Dean rocks. It's rather wonderful to see Dean as a team player and not the lone hunter. Sort of makes me sad for his 'real life'.

Dean: What's a PA?
Sam: I think they're kinda like slaves.

They have a popcorn machine on set???!?!?!?! Dean eats every chance he gets. I love that he's always stuffing something in his mouth. Oral fixation or what. I can think of things I'd like him to work on with that mouth!!! (Also makes sense with the life they lead, never knowing where the next meal is coming from.) Love Sam's expression as Dean eats the mini philly cheese steak sandwich. Snicker. Gross, yet oh so ...

Dean gains all the kit of a PA, headset, utility belt etc. and drives Sam nuts with his multitasking conversations.

The fake preview with references to Scarecrow and Route 666 was a hoot. In our market the fake trailer was then followed by a real one for Hot Fuzz which for some reason made it seem all the funnier.

The view up from the ground, of Dean, with a shotgun in his hands, after he's blasted the ghost and saved Martin was oh so hot. Very macho movie, very homoerotic and very Dean.

Martin (and later Tara!!!!): You are one hell of a PA. Oh yeah, baby!

Dean gets laid and he's so happy afterwards. God, he looked gorgeous post fucking. My knees went weak. Plus Sam made another brilliant face. Jealous much?

Sam and Dean walk off into a fake sunset. Sigh. Sadly it's all going to end in tears.

As for next week, can I just say, HOLY CRAP! I'm so fricking scared and all I've seen is the preview. Please, please let them do this right 'cos otherwise I'm going to cry. I need me some good honest angst and red hot writing. I'm just begging. Pitiful, I know, but what's a fangirl to do?
