Rome Burn's final* gig

Saturday night saw Rome Burn's final* gig, with many old friends in Slimes.

In the support slot were Two Cobies; they didn't grab me and I ended up at the bar discussing M'Era Luna. The last two songs of their set added a violin, and those two songs did grab me.

One of the themes that surprised me was the number of times people said that they'd have liked to see Grendel as well (they were playing in the other half of Slimes); I didn't realise the cross over between the fan bases was that big.

Wanting to be near the front for Rome Burns, I ended up in prime position between chimera_s and morbidfrog. An early hiccup left Simon having to pull a stand-up routine while the backing laptop was coaxed to play, then it became a satisfying set.

The pyrotechnics budget was rather modest, stretching to a party popper for everyone. With a satisfying scent of gunpowder, the coloured ribbons added to morbidfrog's fairy headdress (where they looked good), and chimera_s's beard (which was amusing). I'm sure pictures will be posted soon.

* "final", but I wouldn't be suprised to see them play a song at next weekend's Last July gig.
