Scotland was an independent country for about a thousand years. Quebec is just what remains of the old French colony of Canada.
There is a very divisive language issue in Quebec. New immigrants to Quebec, whether from other parts of Canada or from other countries, resent attempts to force them to speak French. Here in Scotland, nobody is trying to force immigrants to speak Gaelic, and immigrant communities are just as likely as native-born Scots to support independence.
In Quebec, there are bitter divisions between Quebecois and the "anglo"-canadians who live there. Here in Scotland, migrants from England are just as likely to support independence as are native-born Scots.
Quebec has disputes with half a dozen “Native-Canadian” nations which were there long before any white men, whether French-speaking or English-speaking, got there, and these native nations lay claim to much of the land area of Quebec. Here in Scotland, we of the majority population ARE the indigenous nations, and we have no great problem over welcoming newcomers.
