Will you kill a Nobel Peace Prize Winner

To the Israeli Ambassador:

I understand that one of the flotilla of ships taking aid to Gaza, the MV Rachel Corrie, which had sailed all the way from Cork, in Ireland, was greatly delayed; and, as a result, it was not one of the ships 'intercepted' and taken to Ashdod. I understand that the Rachel Corrie is still heading for Gaza. Those on board are well aware of the huge loss of life that happened on board the Mavi Marmara, but they are determined to press on with their non-violent mission. The MV Rachel Corrie is due to arrive at Gaza tomorrow - Wednesday 2nd June.

The MV Rachel Corrie is a merchant ship, which was bought by Irish peace activists, and is named for an American woman killed in the Gaza Strip in 2003. On board the ship are 15 people including a Nobel Peace Prize winner, Mairead Corrigan Maguire, who, with her colleague, Betty Williams, created Northern Ireland’s Peace People; and, with her colleague, she was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for their work in seeking to bring peace to Northern ireland.

Ms Corrigan says the ships are purely humanitarian and none are carrying arms.

Also on board the MV Rachel Corrie is the former UN Assistant Secretary General, Denis Halliday.

The ship is bringing educational materials, construction materials and toys to Gaza. The entire cargo was inspected by the authorities in Ireland. There is no reason not to let this ship pass.

If violent action is taken against the MV Rachel Corrie, Israel will not have a single friend left in the world.
