The Carnival

Here's another short story for the fillathon! It's for the prompt of Linkara and Suede having a cute first date, so I tried to make it very fluffy and adorable! I enjoy multi-shipping Linkara it seems, and since I love the Pokemon reviews he's done with Suede, I think they have great chemistry! I also love using Pokemon terms for innuendo when it comes to Linkara it seems, lol. I hope if the original prompter sees this, it is enjoyed!

I couldn't think of a good quote to use for the title! I have failed my WL loving heart! If only I could get Crazy Ted to fit into the story somehow, then everything would be perfect! XDD

Linkara pushed his hat to the back of his head, gripped the ball tightly in between his fingers, wound up his arm several times, and finally hurled the spherical object with all his might.

“Pokeball, go!” he cried out, even though he was tossing a worn out softball at a stack of milk bottles arranged in a pyramid formation, and not a Pokeball at one of the hundreds of brightly colored monsters which inhabited the world of one of his favorite video games.

After the ball struck the bottles, knocking them all to the ground, and the man running the booth handed him an oversized purple mouse plushie, Linkara couldn’t help turning to Suede, who was standing beside him, and holding up two fingers in a V-for-Victory pose.

“Alright! I caught a Rattata!”

“Impressive. Is that your trick for having good luck at the carnival?” Suede wondered, gazing at the stuffed creature in amusement. “Pretending you’re Ash Ketchum?”

“Actually, I prefer to think of myself as his more charming and handsome older brother,” Linkara admitted with a grin.

Suede laughed. “Of course you do. Now, Mr. Ketchum, after engaging in such an exhausting battle, would you care for some sustenance?” Suede offered him one of the sticks of cotton candy he’d just purchased.

“Why don’t we make a trade,” Linkara replied, using the hand which wasn’t holding the plushie to readjust his hat. “One stick of cotton candy for one Rattata?”

Suede’s eyes widened. “You’re serious?”

“I won it for you, after all,” Linkara replied, his expression softening as he stared into Suede’s eyes. “To commemorate our first date.”

Suede felt his cheeks heat up and he quickly looked down. “I-I suppose I can make that trade… if your Rattata is in the top percentage, of course,” he quickly joked, trying to lighten the mood.

It seemed to work, since Linkara laughed loudly as he placed the plushie into Suede’s arms.

“I wouldn’t catch any lesser rodent for you, my dear Suede,” he declared before taking a huge bite out of the fluffy spun sugar.

Suede smiled and clutched the creature to his chest, catching a whiff of Linkara’s cologne on its fur, which caused him to sigh happily.

“Come on, let’s get going!” he suddenly cried, grabbing Linkara by the hand and pulling him in the direction of the rides. The night was still young and he wanted them to enjoy everything the carnival had to offer.

After a round on the carousel, the teacups, and the twister, Suede and Linkara were so dizzy they could barely walk without stumbling or bumping into something, which necessitated they hold hands even more tightly than before, for the well-being of not only themselves but everyone around them. Eventually, Suede managed to guide them toward a booth selling hot funnel cakes, which they both enjoyed along with a tall glass of lemonade at a nearby picnic table while recovering from their disequilibrium.

While the two sat and munched on their sugar-drizzled fried treats, the soft melodies of a local rock group poured from a speaker located nearby.

“Ah, isn’t it sweet to be serenaded while you eat?” Suede mused.

Linkara fixed him a crooked grin. “You’re really a romantic, aren’t you?”

“I suppose I am,” Suede admitted, chuckling softly. “Sorry if I seem a bit silly.”

“You don’t,” Linkara confidently replied. “I actually really like that about you.”

Before they could get any further in their conversation, the sudden wailing of an electric guitar blasted through the speaker, causing both men to jump a foot into the air.

“That, however, is certainly not romantic,” Linkara replied, wincing slightly as he moved to stand up. “Why don’t we search for somewhere quieter to conclude the evening?”

Suede’s eyes scanned across the fairgrounds until landing on the perfect location for such a request. “I know just the place.”

A short while later, Linkara and Suede were squeezed into a car on the Ferris Wheel, slowly rising high into the sky before slowly descending again and again.

“I suppose it’s a bit cliché to end a night at the carnival here,” Suede said, smiling over at Linkara.

“I prefer to think of it as the classic carnival ending,” Linkara replied before looking down to the purple rodent sitting between them. “Besides, I don’t think many couples share the ride with a giant rat plushie.”

“That is true,” Suede said, laughing.

“If originality is what you’re worried about, though, I’ll come up with a completely unique second date for us.” Linkara stopped then and shot Suede a slightly worried look. “If you’re interested in a second date, that is.”

Suede responded by settling his arm around Linkara’s shoulders and leaning close enough to rest his head against Linkara’s.

“I’m very interested.”

Linkara always did have good luck at the carnival.
