There's a Shadow, You Can't See My Eyes

This was a well-deserved vacation. After all those weeks stuck on the Bebop with those idiots and Ed, living on instant noodles and cold showers, she had earned this. She knew someone would be around to get her eventually, but her conscience was clear and her tan was spectacular.

"Found you," said a familiar, tired voice.

"Mmm, so you did."

"Where's the money, Faye?"

"Invested in this tan and that awesome dinner I had last night."

"You already spent it?!"

"You told me not to gamble, I didn't gamble. I thought you'd be happy."

"I should've never let Jet talk me into this. You aren't worth any of the hassle."

"Sit down, Spiegel."

Spike let out an irritated grunt but obeyed, flopping onto the vacant beach chair beside her.

"I don't have all day, Faye. Are you coming back or what?"

"You need to relax. Taking a break every once in a while won't kill you."

"How can I relax when you're stealing whatever money I manage to bring in to go sunbathing?"

"If you treated me better, I wouldn't have to."

"Treated you better, huh. Not worth any of the hassle," he grumbled to himself.

Playfully kicking sand at him and ignoring the distressed groan he responded with, she reached under her chair, grabbed a small hip bag and tossed it into his lap.

"What's this?" he asked, sounding suspicious.

"I may be a thief and a hassle, but I'm worth it," she shrugged.

Spike opened the bag slowly and let out a surprised snort when he looked inside.

"That's a lot of woolongs, Faye."

"Like I said. Totally worth it."

Spike turned around then, but all he could see was her dazzling, tanned skin and teasing smile, her eyes hidden behind sunglasses.
