So this. Aside from the RWNJs I don't get why anyone would think "zomg he has to go!" Honestly replaced by who? Do you really think Mark Carney? Chrystia Freeland? Sean Fraser? Could win the next election? Do you really think Jagmeet Singh is ready or able to lead the country?
Now sure you can haul out the things he hasn't accomplished... in the middle of managing a pandemic... and before that an absolutely bat shit insane US government. And even the things you say he reneged on... efforts were made. Yes he promised electoral reform... and he tried, he did the right things consultations focus groups examining the options... and there wasn't a clear consensus on what Canadians wanted and while you may (or may not) believe that the savior to all our political ills, I don't think it is, and it's a hard bloody sell in these times. The Disability Benefit... I know a lot of people, me included hoped for better / more, but our desires aren't their political promises.. and again it's a climate of hard sell, and I do believe they're trying to help as many (seniors, women, children, the disabled, LGBTQ2) as they can while being accused of mortgaging the future. And your NDP who are gonna fight to make them do the right things... they didn't put the Disability Benefit in their do or die package did they? And the Cons never would have done it not in a million years. Now at least it's there there is an enacted and entrenched program that can be increased incrementally in future witha lot less push back than a big package now would get (see the child tax benefit)
No government is ever going to be perfect and do ALL the things YOU (and all your neighbour's and friends and Joe Canada in Alberta) wants... there will always be reasons to be disappointed if you look for them. But you have to measure the good with the alternatives. If you truly believe that a CONservative government would be good for this country I encourage you to look at the UK, and what they did there, and they're only just now wrestling their country back a few inches from the right (not that Labour is much better but they are better). There was a time of Mike Harris and Brian Mulroney and Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher- we don't need to go through that again. We don't need another 9 years of Harper style conservatism ... muzzled scientists, hijab bans, women's rights rolled back, encouraging hate towards any minority... immigrants poc LGBTQ2.
Gotta ask yourself why all this Trudeau must quit talk? We know why from the CONservatives - they're afraid of him, he really is what's standing in the way between them and power, the NDP? That's just a plain old fashioned attempt at trying to jockey for power, the media? Well "they're just reporting the news" except most of them are owned and run by the right whether the RWNJs of Rebel News or the soft right of the Globe and Mail, they're selling advertising and people want to buy the story.... we need to quit feeding into that.
This Canada Day weekend I am reminded (and even shadow boxed with a friend about) we live in one of the best and safest and most stable and secure countries in the world and I am grateful for it? Is it perfect? No. Do we have bucket loads of work to do? Damned right. But we won't get there handing it over to the likes of Pierre Poilievres.
