So...the last few days...
Well on Saturday I went into NYC after work, and eventually managed to get over to Staten Island. I say eventually because the subways were all messed up and as a result it took me about as long to get from Mahopac to Staten Island as it used to take me to get from Bard to Long Island. Woohoo! But in any case, it was nice to get away for a weekend, and Dan made Squab and I flamboyantly pink drinks. On Sunday we went to the Staten Island zoo which, while somewhat ghetto and not really a replacement for the Bronx Zoo, was still entertaining. They had three people wandering around in giant Tamagotchi suites and one was following us. Also, they had two cockroach exhibits which I'm pretty sure only existed because they had to build the zoo around a cockroach infestation. Those things were huge! Later, when my mom heard that I had gone to the Staten Island Zoo she flipped out and found all of the pictures of us going there when I was like, two. There were three pictures. I was riding a pony and my dad look like he was about fifteen, definitely not like he should have been married with a kid. It was a little awkward.
After that I made my friend Adam meet me in Canal Street because he promised he would have dinner with me but I got back to Manhattan eariler than I thought I would and he had something to do at 5-ish. But then he wanted to go to a Starbucks. I mean, seriously, we're in Canal Street and you want to go to a Starbucks? We found what I'm pretty sure is THE Starbucks in that area because I see it almost every time I'm there....Roger you know which one I'm talking about, the one with the Chinese-ish pillars outside and on the inside it looks like they took this really cool Chinese building and just shoved a Starbucks into it because the ceiling is really high up and cool? Yeah, that one. It was nice to see him, though, and he says that next time I'm in the city I should see his apartment because it'll actually have furniture by then. That sort of overwhelmed me, though, because the summer is half-way done and I still haven't seen all of the Bard people I promised I'd visit. Ahhhh!
Monday was a relaxed day hanging out with my dad and brother, which was nice, and I got new black sneakers for work because seriously, I needed them.
Speaking of work, the best thing I have ever heard was Beth calling me this morning and telling me that since we volunteered to go in yesterday we don't have to do lunch today, just dinner. That's almost as good as when I was told that the party on Saturday is cancelled so I don't have to work at that, either, and can instead be on time for my friend Tina's birthday party up at Bard.
But in any case, it was great to be able to sleep in because yesterday a bunch of us all went to see the new Harry Potter movie at midnight which was a lot of fun. Not only was it great to see the movie with a bunch of people, but seeing it at midnight is even better because everyone yells stupid comments at the screen. Like the nerdy ghetto kids behind us who would yell things like "RJ Lupes representin'!!!" In any case, the movie itself took a lot of things that annoyed me about the book and made them bearable, or even entertaining. And oh my god Luna Lovegood was the cutest thing ever! Seriously, and I didn't really have a thing for her in the books. But anyway, I'll be willing to see it again. And in terms of trailers, The Golden Compass is exciting but I'm afraid that it'll be disappointing, and The Dark Is Rising, a book that I really enjoyed when I was younger (along with the others in the series) actually looks like it'll be awful. Also, Mary, we need to see Transformers.
Oh, and before the movie last night Beth and I "snuck" into the pool after work (alright, her dad gave us the key, but we still technically weren't supposed to be there!) and swam. It was amazing, and I really haven't been swimming enough this summer.
One last thing, if anybody's made it this far. I can't find my copy of the sixth Harry Potter book and I would really like to reread it before the seventh comes out. Could someone lend their copy to me? It shouldn't take me all that long to get through, but I'd like to start soon just in case!
