Studying Tarot Again/Outback

Last night I decided that I would pick back up my hobby of studying and learning about tarot. It's been far too long since I've handled my cards. I also seemed a bit happier when I could pick up the deck and read for someone who asked. I'm starting from the beginning and learning all about the major arcana again. I started with the Fool and made it until Strength. I'd forgotten how much some of these cards mean to me, and even though my understand of them doesn't quite match up with the "book" meanings, I know they still are a wonderful tool.

For instance, as I was reading the meaning for the Fool card, I realized there are so many more meanings I could put with the card than just what the book states. For example, not only does the card suggest a new beginning or journey, but also how a person travels from childhood to adulthood, learning new trades, and having new obstacles put in front of you. He/she knows that it's not going to be easy as that dog is nipping on his/her feet, but you're prepared with all you have and more tools will be given to you when you seek them out.

I also delved into a card that I thought I knew about, but turns out it still surprises me: 8 of Cups. I used to call it a chaos card because it looked like the woman didn't know what to do with her circumstances. I'm finding out its more of a card of disappoint, and I like this meaning better. It looks like in the card she is being given all this stuff and doesn't know what to do with it. When in fact, she does have all this stuff and should be happy about it, but instead it's a big let down. Disappointment with what she has and she wants to throw it all out and start fresh. But just sometimes, you need to work with you have, even if it's not what you were looking forward to.

In related news, I've been asked to do readings at Outback again for Halloween. However, I think they meant at the Halloween party in October. No big deal. I wanted to dress as a gypsy for Halloween anyways, so it'll fit perfectly. I'm thinking I'm going to bring my big wall hanging from college with the big blue sun on it to the party and drape it over a table where I'll read from. Who knows. A lot can happen between now and then. Though, I know of one person who will stay far away from my table and my readings, Ryan. ;)
