Dreaming in Yards

Jan 01, 2006 22:26

I remember sitting in my room in the sorority house, headphones securely attached around my head, bemoaning my situation. (Sigh). Ticketless to the Rose Bowl. I was livid and apparently quite determined.

Now, over a month later, I find myself with extra tickets to one of the biggest games in college football history. I won't bother with the details of the situation, but fortunate for them, Erica and Kathy will be the lucky recipients of two premium Rose Bowl tickets.

So, between figuring out what to do with two EXTRA Rose Bowl tickets and watching nearly every single bowl game of the season (not to mention staying faithful to Carson Palmer's Bengals), it is only natural that I have been dreaming in football. In my dreams, I am either suited up in a Trojan uniform or Reggie Bush is showering me with gifts of crystal Championship trophies. I think I may have finally found a new obsession.

In any case, it is only my duty as Erica's Public Relations specialist to promote her latest column on ESPN Page 2. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=lucero/051215
Although not as insightful as her others, it gave me a good laugh. Look for her next one on January 3rd.

I've definitely been getting closer with ESPN over the past few weeks. In fact, today, I found something that particularly pleased me. To quote it all would be pointless, but the article starts like this:
"Few programs in the nation, and none in the West, embody the notion of big-time football like Southern California. The school has won 11 national championships, had six Heisman Trophy winners and played in 29 Rose Bowls. The place drips with history, from names like Howard Jones and O.J. Simpson, to the site of its home games at the Los Angeles Coliseum, to the tradition of Traveler the stallion rounding the field after USC scores. It's traditionally been almost a given that the Trojans will win --"

Seven Heisman Trophy winners, actually. But that can be forgiven, because, ultimately, it speaks the truth. To a Trojan, it is a given that the Trojans will win. Which is why I'm betting my wallet on it.

Sweet dreams to Trojans everywhere.
