wow. it's been a long time since i've posted a real update. right now mireille is asleep in my arm and brian is giving lucien a bath, so i have a minute.

the holidays were kind of a blur. my mom was here for about two weeks and she was awesome - doing our laundry and dishes and playing with lucien. toward the end of her visit, my oldest sister called with surprising news - she'd been offered a plane ticket to come see us! my sister lives in california, she hasn't come here in the 12 years i've been here, and it had been two years since i'd seen her at all. so, it was awesome. we had a great time and lucien just adored her.

then we had a few days just the four of us for christmas, and then my inlaws came for about a week. needless to say lucien has thrived on all the attention! i really expected this week, with brian back to work and it being our first week with me home alone with the two kids, to be really hard for him. but he has done amazingly well. he gets frustrated that i can't respond to his needs immediately, but he has also been good about sitting with me and reading when i'm nursing, and he helps out a lot. he's a good big brother.

huh. i thought i had lots more to say. i guess the rest is details. mireille is a pretty gassy baby and i am trying to figure out what that's about. i am wondering if it is a dairy or soy sensitivity, so i am trying to decide whether to try an elimination diet. i've heard it can take four weeks to really get the food out of your system, and i've heard that gassiness often subsides by three months. so is it worth it to try? i've also wondered about sugar (goodness knows I have totally od'd on that lately. but i can't find anything about sugar sensitivity in breastfed babies. fortunately, she isn't really colicky, but i can tell that the gas bothers her. i really would like to help her feel better if i can.

mireille, randomness, lucien
