2010-07-16: Stardust

Hey everybody, do you know this face?
It's been awhile now since I've seen this place
Since I've seen these faces, caught their smiles
Since I left this space behind and traveled untold miles

On a train headed somewhere through the heart
Just through the tunnel there and underneath the arch
Beyond the ever-hungry limits of the ego's greed
It fights to feed, always planting seeds
Forever looking outside for its chance to breed

Fear, hate, and discontent
Without awareness it will not relent
So lay me bare
What identifies in that mirror stare
Tell me how to measure up
How do I compare

What will they think
What will they say
Enough falsehood, I'm waking up today
Letting self-doubt and insecurity melt away

It won't be long
Let me be assured, quiet and strong
Stop trying to pretend, trying to belong
And instead

Awaken to the truth within
Life - oh, where does it end
Why did it begin
These questions haunt the hearts of men
It seems every generation must learn again

I am delighted, that we cannot be divided
There are those now and always who will try and deny it
But they shall adjust, for we are star dust
Tossed in the rhythm of the cosmic gust
And then thrust!

Born blind into a sea, a storm
The body a machine connecting spirit with form
There was no seminar for this interface
No manual to hear, see, smell, touch, or taste
And clouded by emotion we can lose our place

So we contrive --
Distracted from what's real, trying to survive
The question: What does it mean to really be alive
It's simplicity, no mystery
Contemplating things that we should not be
It's connecting with eachother that will set us free

Being selfless, and having compassion
Love is not a resource we're supposed to ration
So I take a breath
Just a moment to rest
I can feel the beating heart deep within my chest

It resonates
My focus is clear, my pupils dilate
I can hear the sound of creation if I concentrate
The constant hum beneath the chaos of earth
Underneath the silence is the voice of birth

So now it's clear
The doubt has passed on, there is no more fear
It may seem at times the world is austere
And it could
But the universe unfolds precisely as it should
Underneath the samsaric cycle this are mostly good

'Cause after all
It is from dust we come
And to this star dust
We shall return as one
