So I've been collecting Hermès scarves for a few years. (Been meaning to make proper photo posts for ages, but this is not it.) While it's incredibly fascinating to learn things about the massive and detailed world of designs going back decades - not to mention gradually building up an internal gauge for authenticity for something that's often faked and faked well - it's always been a one-way street, expenditure-wise.
But the other day I saw a 2004 Tohu Bohu 90 being sold by a clueless consignment agency for... well, not quite a pittance, but let's just say significantly below market value. They had no idea what they were selling. You know you always read stories about people picking up a Picasso for peanuts in estate sales or whatever? It's basically like that, except with H scarves it only happens with very, very specific designs. Scarfies call them "grails". Tohu Bohu is one of them.
So I snapped it up and am now preparing to sell it for, I estimate, at least £100 profit after fees. It's a drop in the ocean compared to how much I've spent on the damn house horse house over the years, but boy am I glad to be making money off H for once. Pointless fashion knowledge = money, finally.
