You know, I'm sort of incoherent with love for this vid. After watching it a couple times, I read your notes. For me as a viewer, the vid was not really about Vorenus and Antony. It is much more along the lines of what you describe re order --> disorder, the chaos that is Rome, which you captured perfectly. I think the larger context of the vid sort of eclipses the aspect of Antony and Vorenus bearing witness as the cogs of Rome grind everything down. Octavian's war with Antony featuring prominently in the latter half of the vid really amplifies that. Anyway, the vid is completely gorgeous, and I loved everything about it. Rome's my all-time favorite show, and I've been wanting a vid like this for a long time. I'm so thrilled you were the person who made it. :D
I'm glad that you liked the vid, thank you for your kind comment! :) I totally get what you mean; I set out to make the vid about the two of them, but as soon as you start placing them amongst the bigger events, the individuals simply get dragged under the wheel. Which is interesting meta, I guess, although it's always a bit frustrating when a vid doesn't go over quite the way that you intended. :-/
Thank you so much! Your incredibly insightful analysis is basically the vid I wished I had made, although if I were being totally honest, I'm not sure it's quite the vid I ended up making due to some failings in the execution. I love, love, love your reading, and I didn't know it at the time, but yes, now that you've pointed it out, I totally agree at its heart the vid is about Antony, even though the POV is Vorenus and it spends greater swathes of time on Vorenus. I just wish I had articulated that to myself better when I was making it. It's kind of amazingly awesome that you saw it nonetheless. Can I borrow your brain for my next vid? :D
Watching this vid actually was (for me) a whole new experience in watching vids. I've never seen this show; I have a bit of second hand knowledge about it, but! I do know a lot about this period in history and this vid, it feels like... Like Rome. The interplay of the power struggles/politics of one of the largest conquering forces (and their sexy indulgences!).
There's betrayal and honor, and it's powerful and moving (and, hah, I looked up the actors on imdb and... I don't even know why. Of course they're the only people/chars that fit such roles), but this vid... Just, wow. It feels so much like history. I've never watched a vid like this before. ♥
Thank you very much! I'm thrilled that it felt like a new experience for you. I guess it was a perfect storm of knowing the history well but not the show? I'm not sure what you'd think of the show from the perspective of someone who knows the history well. My guess is that you'd be very, very tickled by the way they cutely inserted the two main fictional characters into the historical events, and/or really pissed off at some of the liberties taken. In any case, it's a very well done show and I would recommend, unless you know you're just gonna be pissed off by the inaccuracies. ;)
