film recs, 30 days of vidding meme - day 21

Randomly, I saw two awesome films tonight, and now I'm so hyped from them I can't sleep. One is a 6-minute short animated collaboration by... wait for it... Walt Disney and Salvador Dali! ! ! It's just as surreal and beautiful and amazing as it sounds. Destino

The second one is called Womb, starring Eva Green, who I always love, and Matt Smith, who I loved in this role. And there's also Cassie from Skins! ♥ It's a bit controversial.

Day 21 - Sequels - Have you ever created a sequel to a vid you made, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

One vid for one subject matter, and in the words of Forrest Gump, "And that's all I've got to say about that." Mostly I think it's just that I don't focus on plot-driven journeys where there's capacity for new journey after the current one wraps up.* So that's where I stand on my own vids. But I have no bias against other people's sequel vids as long as they meet my general criteria for sequels below. (In particular, I'm quite looking forward to #Catbaby parts 2 and 3. :D)

Sequels generally - I like them when the whole narrative arc is obviously planned from the outset. Nothing like an intricate world-building exercise that's too large for one instalment to be broken into several instalments and everything ties into each other and it's all wrapped up in a neat package. But sequels that just happen (and keep happening) because everyone liked the first instalment? *spits on the ground* The Matrix, I spit on you the most because you were the most awesome to begin with.

*Although I do have a sequel idea for one of my older vids, You Only Disappear. As you may recall, the vid posits Mal/Simon and then Simon gets shot and dies and Mal's all moping woefully. The sequel idea sees Mal experience full-on transference by getting together with River, with the not-so-subtle subtext that when they're with each other both of them just close their eyes and think of Simon. Three ships for the price of one. I do love my brain sometimes.
