First, thanks for the vid, I had never seen it before and indeed, very moving, and "honest" is the good word. poor ianto.
Thanks for that article too, very interesting, I really like this : from an idealistic perspective, the ultimate determinant of whether a work speaks to someone should be whether the work actually does speak to someone, and not whether the creator said it should
I think it's easy to sometimes not trust our own gut and request the creator's opinion to validate our own, like our vision isn't valid enough as a simple viewer. it's a complex topic but one that is interesting to think about.
You haven't seen it before? I'm glad I linked to it, then. :) There's just something about this vid that makes it the quintessential Ianto/Jack vid for me.
I think it's easy to sometimes not trust our own gut and request the creator's opinion to validate our own, like our vision isn't valid enough as a simple viewer. *nods* I think sometimes it's also amplified if you have to actually write feedback directly where they could actually come back and say "actually, that's not what I meant." Whereas, I dunno, I think if you were, for example, in an art gallery you'd feel a lot more free to put your own interpretations on things because the artist isn't there to immediately react to whether your interpretation fitted with their own.
That's what I do, anyway. I'm sure my interpretations of abstract art are never what the artist intended, but that doesn't stop me going to galleries. :D
Like bananainpyjamas, I'm going to start supplementing the vid meme posts with one random thing of the day in hope that random + random = less random, or something. (She explained it much better.)
I believe it was Spam + Spam = Not Spam. Obviously. ;) But look at you posting smart stuff. Put my kittens and random GIFs to shame why don't ya? :P
I have insane love for Set the Fire to the Third Bar! It's my Definitive Ianto Vid for s1, as Let It Happen is my Definitive Ianto Vid for s1-2 (So much love for Let it Happen, which captures the stubbornness above and beneath the pain in Ianto. How he hurts like anyone, but keeps rolling with the punches.)
