Day 9 - A vid that makes you cry
Set the Fire to the Third Bar by sol_se, Torchwood, Ianto/Jack.
Season 1 only, and yet it is the most heart-wrenching, perfect augury for all the things to come. I've watched this vid so many times and yet I just can't put my finger on why it works so well - except just to say that the song and vid structure somehow perfectly encapsulates Ianto's view of Jack, and it is just so... honest about the power imbalance in that relationship that it breaks my heart.

Like bananainpyjamas, I'm going to start supplementing the vid meme posts with one random thing of the day in hope that random + random = less random, or something. (She explained it much better.)
Today I link you to AV Club's musing on Should artists’ lives or opinions affect how people perceive their art? What struck me the most were the bits on how it's tempting - for both artist and audience - to have the artist actually come out and tell you their take on it, and "should they in the first place", and subsequently "how much should the audience listen to that." There's no right answer, of course.
As usual, (some of) the comments are worth reading as well. And as usual, I have no coherent thoughts on this that I care to write down, but feel free to discuss in comments if you're so inclined.
