I Can't See Why by
proofpudding, Gilmore Girls, Rory/Dean.
Gilmore Girls is probably one of the hardest sources to vid ever, in my opinion, so it takes a lot for a GG vid to impress me. What I love about this vid is that it doesn't shy away from the static source and try to make it something else; it works with the source, the very traditional blocking and scenes that all tend to look visually similar, and intercuts and parallels so that source context becomes very important to appreciate the unwinding narrative. The use of music, scene selection and colour all adds up to truly hypnotic stuff.
There's a War Going On For Your Mind, Laura by
beccatoria, BSG, Roslin-centred ensemble.
I'm still in the process of catching up on s4, so I dared not read too hard in case I got spoiled. The bits that I did read, however, were just amazing. The lyrical interpretation and how it ties up with so many different narrative threads is so all-encompassing, so expansive, that it easily fits into one of the best BSG vids I've seen. The musicality and pacing is fantastic.
One thing that I notice with both these vids is that they both have very complex narratives which require solid context knowledge on the part of the viewer in order to really access their brilliance.
In other news: Auckland has officially issued a Civil Defence warning about a storm that is passing through. It's pretty quiet right now here in the city centre (barely raining), but
littleheaven70 is getting battered pretty hard out on the North Shore.
