40 Things of 2006
1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
- Finished my first year of University without suffering from a mental breakdown.
- Been able to buy alcohol and cigarettes legally.
- Fallen in love.
- Realised that I only need a few people in my life to make me completely happy.
- Developed an unhealthy dislike for my Father.
- Developed and unhealthy dislike for public transport.
- Taken the train to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and back again by myself.
- Gotten stoned.
- Visited my old house in Caloundra.
- Got my lip and my navel pierced.
- Stretched my right ear lobe to 8mm, then got rid of the stretcher.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Alas, no. I'm still unemployed and I don't have my license.
Of course I shall endeavour to make more resolutions, but looking on the ones I set myself last year and the fact that I didn't follow through with them makes me actually following through with any I set myself for next year highly unlikely.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.
5. What countries did you visit?
Sigh, none.
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
Belief from my Father that I am capable of being able to chose what I would like to do with my life.
I could have done with taking Uni a bit more seriously and studying a bit more..
7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory?
- Big Day Out.
- Splendour In The Grass.
- Uni Orientation.
- First Day of Uni.
- First Uni Exam.
- Getting my Learner's License.
- Getting my lip pierced
- Watching my mum get a tattoo.
- Getting my navel pierced.
- Meeting Ben.
- The day my sister and her fiance moved to Sydney.
- The day my sister told me that she was going to the Melbourne Comedy Festival and telling me she got tickets to see Dylan Moran's live show and me crying for hours.
- Sneaking into a club.
- Turning eighteen and not having to sneak into a club.
- Buying my first packet of cigarettes.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finishing my first year of Uni.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not finding some kind of income, not getting my P's and lack of University study.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got the flu quite a lot, but that was about it.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Broadband Internet.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mother's, for sticking up for me when Gitler dished out oodles of crap.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My father's. Hands down.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Clothes, phone bills, DVD's, bus tickets, cigarettes and gigs.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
- Splendour in the Grass.
- First Day of Uni.
- Last Day of Uni.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier.
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter.
c) richer or poorer? Poorer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Read more books, written more songs, practised piano, gone to Uni and done more Uni work.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Spend my evenings watching DVD's and just general procrastination.
22. Did you fall in love in 2006?
I certainly did.
23. How many one-night stands?
Uhm, two? I think?
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Black Books, Family Guy, Teachers, The League of Gentlemen, Shameless and Extras. I could go on..
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I would say "hate", just don't care about/don't have time for.
26. What was the best book you read?
The entire set of Jasper Fforde's "The Eyre Affair".
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
CSS, Death Cab For Cutie, The Zutons, Elliott Smith, Emiliana Torrini, The Faint, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, I Heart Hiroshima, Kooks, Mr Bungle, Neon Blonde, Soiled Doves, The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower, Red Riders, The Shins, Sigur Ros and We Are Scientists
28. What did you want and get?
Love. Aww.
29. What did you want and not get?
Job, car, oboe, harp and a synth.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Plan Nine From Outter Space and the City of Lost Children.
31. What did you do on your birthday?
Got a bunny, went to lunch with friends, bought my first packet of cigarettes and a scratchie and went clubbing.
32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Some form of stable income, a car and an oboe.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Uhm, I have absolutely no idea. I started to dress a lot more feminine, though?
34. What kept you sane?
Cigarettes, coffee, my mother and music.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Dylan Moran and Johnny Whitney.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I tend to stay out of politics. It bores me.
37. Who did you miss?
Uncle Peter.
38. Who were the best new people you met?
Ben.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
I know it's corny and cliche, but "Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger".
And also "Every one of our parents causes incredible emotional damage".
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"There's no wrong way to fuck a girl with no legs, just tell her you love her as she's crawling away."
No, it doesn't sum up my year but it's the first thing that sprang into my head. That's pretty much because I could think of a song lyric that was I was comfortable with letting sum up my entire year.
