Well, I finally had it with Windows Media Player. The damn thing freezes like a sale at the ice store (start; freeze; goto Artist; freeze; play album; freeze), randomly mixes up my play count, and just wiped my library for the third time. Itunes? Don't make me laugh. I use that for my Audiobooks and it overheats my computer in ten minutes flat. So I finally investigated Winamp, that fun-looking player I see my friends using (
hikari_datenshi somehow got hers to look like Wesker from RE?!?).
I was pleasantly suprised - though it was intimidating at first, and the mp3 that started at full volume as soon as I opened it declared "WINAMP - IT REALLY WHIPS THE LLAMA'S ASS" directly into my earbones and almost blew my headphones, I soon got all 39 DAYS of music onto it and started playing. The audio-mixer, playlists (which i'm new to) and rating system are easy to find, if not easier than WMP, the audio's clear and the giddy rush of the new is prompting me to mix it up with old favourites and new stuff (Like Raekwon and Xzibit, who've been sitting on my drive for years unlistened to). Deleting used to be an issue, until I winkled out the bit that did it (as is always the way - just keep on experimenting).
Plus it prompted me to do something i'd been meaning to do for some time - finally turn off the "Play Count" function. It'd been driving me up the wall trying to listen to everything, and trying to listen to each track on an album the same number of times, and just to be naughty, I listened to one track ON REPEAT. It's been years since I did that! Although since that track was Caramelldansen I doubt my neighbours share my enthusiasm.
Only Downside? I can't scroll through music like I used to (by Genre, by Play-count etc) so I have to search for specific artists, though no doubt there's some "uber secret function" that makes it do that which i'm too dumb to understand, as is the case with all technology (accroding to my friends who've been doing it for years and years. Even the new stuff).
But best of all? It doesn't freeze AT ALL. And that alone is worth every penny I didn't pay.
