Halloween Challenge (and a challenge it was)

Title: That Strange Serpiente Holiday
Fandom: The Kiesha'ra series
Author:
animegirl07
Challenge: October 2007, had to use: Vulture, Vampire, and Castle (The Rookery at Wyvern's Court)
Pairing/Characters: Marus, Urban, at least one-sided UrbanxMarus
Rating: G
Warning: Slight slash
Summary: Urban drags Marus out to a Halloween celebration, serpiente style!
Author's Note: So I'm not even sure if they celebrate Halloween at this point in time (as the Kiesha'ra are long before our own time period), but I figured that of all the cultures in the books, the serpiente are the most likely to celebrate a chance to dress up, scare people, give out candy and food, and party until the sun rises. And this was one of many ideas that I had for this challenge, and... yeah, I've had a busy month, so this was put off for a while. But it is done, and I'm happy with it. (Pretty much.)

Enjoy!

“Hey, Marus, you’re not busy, right?”
“Urban? What are you-” Marus didn’t have time to finish his question before Urban had him on his feet and had pressed a bundle of clothing into his hands.
“Put that on, quickly! You’ve got to dress up!”
“What are you talking about?” But Urban just grinned.
“You’ll see. Now change!”

Minutes later, Marus stood before the Rookery along with a hundred other people, fidgeting with the high top of his cloak - or cowl, as Urban had informed him before shoving an odd set of fake teeth at his face. Marus messed with the fangs, and made a face. This is so odd. And I still don’t know what’s going on.
As if he had heard the raven’s thoughts, Urban turned to his friend and grinned, showing off a matching pair of fangs. “It’ll be fun! It’s Halloween!”
Hallow what?
Suddenly the doors to the Rookery opened, and Marus, Urban, and hundreds of other people in different strange and peculiar outfits streamed in. Music poured out, and soon the center of the Rookery was filled with dancing serpents.
Marus gasped as he momentarily found Urban, who had been right next to him, replaced with a woman halfway between a human and a vulture. Marus, after realizing that there was not another avian there (besides the Naga), nearly laughed as he saw her “wings” didn’t grow out of her back like any true avian, but that they were her arms transformed, feathers attached with thread to sheer, feather-patterned fabric.
She turned to him and smiled as she saw the expression on his face. “You look a little lost here, little bird. Do you need a hand?” At this she held out one arm, the feathers rustling at the movement.
“It’s all right, he’s with me.” Urban had returned, and Marus felt himself relax a little.
The vulture woman looked at the two vampires and smiled. “I approve,” she said, still grinning as she turned to disappear into the crowd.
“What was that about?” Marus asked, tilting his head.
Urban grinned at the bird-like action. “She likes the costumes,” he said, crossing his fingers behind his back.
He’d tell the raven… one day.
(And I'm totally kidding about that LJ cut. That has nothing to do with the story. ^^) I had to add that because it looks so... immature. But it's a joke!
