Not happy with life in a certain place? Pack up and move. Check where the opportunities are, and go there. Do what needs to be done to get a better job. Take training courses that will help you. Aim for a better job with more opportunities. Push for a better position within your own job. Hell, even aim to be the absolute best you can be in your current role. Its not that hard.
but i AM the best person in my job where i work, everyone is absolutely dreading me leaving. the other day i had to bring up the subject of leaving with my boss the other day and that was NOT a pleasant conversation. i felt so awkward ;.; and i like it here in tassie, i don't feel like moving just now, maybe later in the future, but for me right now, my future is here :)
Then demand better hours or a better position. Ask to be put in for management training. If you're that valued, capitalise on it. Tell them that you feel like you're stagnating in your current position and ask to discuss options for your future.
And I didn't hold down a damn good job until I packed up and took the opportunities that where there for the taking. As my cousin's husband pointed out: the opportunities that the boom provided where here for anybody to take. I came, I took the right one, kept my head down, did my best, addressed my issues, and pushed hard to succeed. I've taken no holidays since January, come in when sick, cut my breaks to get things done, done extra shifts to complete my training, I had NIGHTMARES about work from falling asleep with my hands moving over invisible joysticks while crane sirens echoed in my skull.
