Musings on Internet Relocation

I've been reading over recent news posts for LiveJournal and...I don't know if I'm going to stick around for the long haul.

I've had an LJ since 2001. This has, quite literally, been my internet home for over ten years. That's insane. I'm not the kind of person to pack up and leave for no reason (or ridiculous - to me - reasons, like making a new username or 'starting a new chapter'). On top of that, I'm not even sure where I'd migrate to and if people would even care to read my updates elsewhere. It's a little sad that the sort of community that LiveJournal originally gave us is being cut down to tweets and Facebook statuses. I love my tumblr, but tumblr isn't a good place for life updates and journaling, it's not a good place to communicate like LiveJournal was (yes, I know it's easy to communicate on tumblr - with asks and reblogs and such - but it's not the same at all).

Basically, my gripes are boiling down to:
I know I'm really holding on to something that's been dying for awhile. There's only a handful of people who still post here and most of which are crossposting from other places. Which leaves me with the following decisions:
  • Move over to Dreamwidth, or even InsaneJournal - I have my name registered on both.
  • Wordpress, which, in my opinion, is like a fancier tumblr (see: reblogs, likes).
I can crosspost with Dreamwidth, but not with the other two. Wordpress is pay for anything useful/fun.

But...at the same time, am I really going to keep updating on whatever new place I might move to? I'm so used to just coming to LJ and reading/posting, will I really want to keep up on a new site with new things to learn? It's probably going to boil down to Dreamwidth in the end, since I can still crosspost to LJ, if people still want to read but don't have a site elsewhere.
