INDEX PLOT CHARACTER CREATION GETTING STARTED So, I actually went through with it and it's open. I'm pretty pleased with the skin and everything I put together, so even if it doesn't get a lot of activity, it's somewhere I can derp around with my characters.
I've been sort of dropping hints here and there about it, but I've only officially posted it on RPG Directory (and I'll likely post it on the other three big directories today). I kind of want to bring in some quality roleplayers before posting it on any furry-based sites, so there's some good examples of what I'd like to see in a character. But I have the feeling I'll get impatient of that and just start advertising everywhere. Maybe I'll just use my own character applications as the initial accepted ones, since I know I'll build them around the basics of what I'd like to see in a character.
I'm also open to ideas for the place, though I do have a running mental list of stuff I'm saving for the future. There is a reason some species and concepts are restricted from the get-go - I want to use them for plots later and maybe make some species available through roleplay and such. Same with character concepts and other things. If I let everything be playable all over the place, where would the fun be in that?
The application process, which I expect to get some complaints about (because many furry roleplayers don't do forum-based RP with applications), but it's really not that big of a deal. As long as a character fits into the setting and doesn't have anything glaringly wrong with their application, they'll probably be approved. My criteria for characters isn't as strict as it is on my fandom sites, there isn't a canon that needs to be met, just the general setting.
I've had a few comments that people would have joined if it was [blah]. Medieval, space, something other than modern times. I might introduce an category on the site, for alternate universe roleplay, maybe down the line and likely with some kind of post count requirement. As fun as alt-u roleplay is, I wouldn't want the presence of those extra forums taking away from the main game.
And, yes, it doesn't 'feel' like a ~furry~ site. But that's intentional. A lot of furry sites I see are kind of overloaded with really cliche or stereotypical furry imagery. Tails and paws and ~~fur patterns~~ everywhere. I wanted something that looked good and was functional from the get-go. Easy to read, easy to navigate. After that, I wanted something that didn't really FEEL furry, because I don't want to be cliche. Aside from that, I didn't want to plaster my own art all over the site for graphics. Nor did I want to use anyone else's art, or use any stock artwork. I felt the design looked more professional and clean without all the clunky graphics. Plus, I'm using 200x250px avatars, so those do some of that imagery work for me.
So, yeah. Questions, comments, suggestions, I'm open to them all. If you're interested in joining, don't hesitate to inquire if anything seems confusing or weird to you. The
getting started guide is a good place to start, as well~
