cross-posted from my other "grown up blog"

I started this damn blog many moons ago with the purpose of chronicling the delightful ups, downs, diagonals, and nauseating tumbles of trying to be 1. an artist 2. a responsible adult capable of paying my rent, and 3. a sane human being (and yes, listing sanity last appropriately reflects its place in the hierarchy). And since my last post in August, I've done a few shows, lost one job, started no less than four new jobs, done battle with mono, became an ordained minister via the internet, and managed not to write a single word about it.

Why? I had to ask myself. Where does my aversion to the blogosphere/worldwideblogoverse/whatevertheycallitthesedays come from? And today, I had a revelation.

One word: angst. Try as I might, I can't get over this feeling that somehow blogging makes me an angsty teenager. Now, I know that in many ways the purpose of blogging has changed drastically between the years when I was an emotionally over-wrought 17 year old (trolling online poetry communities and liberally abusing the right to wear eyeliner) and February, 2010. It's not even that I avoid blogs. I follow several friends via blogs. I use the blogs of prominent scholars, feminists, and leaders to keep tabs on things I care about. I am totally fine with reading them. It's just the writing that gets wonky.

So, this day, shortly after my 26th birthday, I have decided to re-embrace the power of the blog. The eyeliner, however, will not be making a return.
