A New Family Member
Here's the fifth one-shot in the series!!
"What in the name of Galtea is that?!" Vaan heard a certain sky pirate yell. He laughed as he entered the room.
He found Balthier staring at a dog-like animal that lay on the floor. It wasn't just any creature either - it was a wolf.
Vaan smiled as he knelt down beside the sleeping animal. He gently stroked its fir then smiled up at his love. The confusion was on the brunette's face.
"This is my new pet. I was able to tame him in two days. He's been following me around and keeping me company since."
"Really now? What may I ask has that wolf done?"
The blond smiled, then recounted the week's activities. He laughed as he recounted going on a hunt with Montblanc - the leader of Clan Centurio himself. The moogle had been impressed as to his ability to tame a beast. He told the founder how he did it as the creature attacked their mark, them attacking as well.
Then out came the story of how Penelo had taken both of them to the Sandsea for work one day. Vaan had trained the would to hold its head in such a way to hold a tray of drinks. The patrons had been entertained and tipped extra on top of what they normally would.
As the stories were relived, Balthier watched his love's eyes light up. He could see that during the two weeks of his absence the teen had been occupied. It was good to see the light in his eyes.
Vaan smiled as he noticed the sky pirate kneel down. The brunette's hand ran through the wolf's fur. It brought a joy to his heart to know that the one he cared for was interested in his new development.
"So if I have to leave again, You'll be okay?" the ex-Judge asked, taking the blond into his arms.
"If you mean will I miss you, I will. However I won't be as lonely."
"Have you named him?"
Vaan nodded quietly. He seemed somewhat sad, yet happy at the same time. It was a look seen too many times before. Only when one thing was on his mind. Or rather, one person.
"It's a good name for him."
The thief smiled as he looked at the sleeping wolf.
"Welcome to the family... Reks."
