Here is the fourth in the series!! Hope you're not getting tired of them!
Balthier flew the Strahl over Rabenastre. Since the start of Her Royal Majesty Queen Ashelia's rule, the bustling city had become more so. Most who had been thieves and beggars were now earning more money and Lowtown was being drastically renovated to help with the ever-changing economy.
Mostly, anyway.
There were those who were less fortunate. They still had to do odd jobs around the city. Hunts and marks were taken just so they could get by.
At one time, Vaan had been one of them. In a way he still was one of the lower class, just higher up. When people were in a higher class, they always thought of sky pirates as lower than dirt - dirt usually being the the term for the lower middle class.
Being a noble had its perks, sure. However Balthier was not his late father. The sky pirate could do nothing with the power he held. Even as a Judge he could only harm the people, not help them. He caused more pain than joy. During the days he was hard as mythril.
At night, though, he became as watery as the sandsea itself.
Balthier was proud of the fact that he was a sky pirate. He could be who he wanted to be - who he really was. He was able to be free, no hiding behind a mask of armor. Ffamram didn't exist; he was Balthier.
The former noble was also proud of the former thief, though. The young man appeared to him and Fran as spunky, fast, and held nothing back. Then, once he was taught and cleaned up, the blond became so much more.
Vaan was the freedom the ex-Judge had searched for. He was all that sky pirate needed ten-fold. He was something tangible among everything that wasn't in Ivalice. There was an air about him that made him special.
He was that something more precious.
Balthier flew the Strahl to the aerodome. He carefully landed her with his viera partner's assistance. Since Ashe's coronation to queen, he hadn't landed in the dome. That had been two months before.
Once they were powered down, the pirates left their seats. The stairs lowered, then they left the ship. Smiles could be witnessed as they noticed the ship that was across from theirs.
Revenant Wings.
