"You know, I think that R2 unit we bought may have been stolen"

It is officially warm here in England! I did not wear a coat on my way to work today (or yesterday) and I listened to Belle & Sebastian on my journey = things I do in summer! It's still April!

Speaking of work, I've been meaning to share this with you for a while! Last year, a little boy of about six asked me if my library had any Star Wars books ( Read more... )

nostalgia, belle & sebastian, photos of me, too cute!, work, nathan fillion, merlin

The story about the card is so sweet! It's making me wish that children were allowed in the library where I work. Also, just curious--what is your job title?

I know! It really did make my day/week/month. I'm lucky, I get to do quite a bit with children, singing songs and rhymes or reading stories.

Oh, I'm just a plain old library assistant, I'm just starting a 2 year program that will make me a librarian of sorts and it's basically just collecting evidence that I actually do my job, hooray!

Library Assistant is a better title than I have (which is Technician)! What other tasks does your title require you to do? Best of luck with your 2 year program to librarianship. That sounds much easier than what us in the states must do. I've heard nothing but horror stories about library school!

Seeing as we're a small branch we all pretty much do every job the library needs to keep running. Stuff like issuing and returning, shelving, requesting, requesting out of county, cashing up, counting the float, balancing the cash, paying the money into the bank, transfers in, transfers out, discarding old stock, adding new stock, displays, enquiries about EVERYTHING (crossword puzzles to legal problems, honestly we get asked some really weird stuff...we're an 'information centre' so people think we have the answers to everything!) crafts with the children, storytimes, singing, booking computer sessions for people, helping people on computers, book repairs...is that about the same as you? Or at you at a large library? I know the one in my nearest town has quite a strict line between librarians and assistants and the assistants only really return and issue books and do the odd request.

Yeah, I didn't fancy library school at all! I don't think this will quite make me a librarian, but it's good enough for me :)

My library's fairly large, so there are different "teams" who tend to the different components that go into an effectively operating library. It must be nice to have such a democratic working environment, although I'm guessing it may be a little more stressful? It seems like you and your co-workers would always have something to do, though!
