At least one of us is efficient :>

Wow - I'm pleasantly surprised! I called my Electric utility company this morning. They took a while to get through to their repairs teams and admitted that they were really busy, but told me I'd get priority treatment. Someone was due to come out today, but they warned me that it may be as late as 10pm. In actual fact, the electrician arrived at around 2.30pm, I was totally without any electric for less than 15 mins and had a new meter fitted in that time. He couldn't tell me how much was on the meter previously but left on some credit. I added a couple of cards, so it's business as usual. Except that I've become much more aware of the things I have plugged in which probably don't need to be in 24/7. So........ I'm more aware of ways to save electricity - not a bad thing and I think if I write to the company they would be able to refund any money I've over paid them (at least, in theory - I've yet to put this to the test).

I have an amazing smell emanating from the kitchen. I've made a red pepper and tomato sauce using the tomatoes that I grew this year. Not sure of the variety, but they were dwarf & the fruit is a pinky red, rather attractive really, I'm suspecting that  I didn't have enough soil for them though as I din't get a large yield. They weren't ripening either, so I popped them in a sealable bag along with an already ripened tomato and a week later they're mostly red now. The majority of these have gone into the sauce along with shallots, 2 chopped pickled chillies, a red pepper, a pinch of sugar, ground sea salt & black pepper and a splash of water. I figured the salt would draw the juices from the tomatoes and peppers, so I added some at the cooking stage for a change. It smells divine. It's been cooking down on my lowest heat for around 15 mins and it'll probably take another 15 more. Not sure what to have it with yet, so it may go into the freezer when it's cooled down. There's a pleasant sense of satisfaction of having grown the tomatoes and then created the sauce.

It's good to be eating well again, it's creative to be making food, and it's quite therapeutic too lol. The repetition of chopping and the soothing-ness of stirring has always been good for me - I just forget during the times when I'm not doing it & it feels like such a hassle. I'm expanding my cooking repertoire, but now I have too much food and not enough of me to eat it LOL.
