Spin Out

My head's been all over the place all weekend & today hasn't helped. I have a pre-payment meter for my electricity but it's in MIND's name, not mine. Not sure why as the last 3 places I've lived in I had my own name on the account but that's something to sort out with A. when I can get in touch with her.
Today I bought a couple of cards to top up my meter, and check to see how much electricity I have. The meter said "Low Voltage" and wouldn't accept the cards, not even an error message (as I usually get if I put them in incorrectly). I tired pushing the display button & the display didn't change, I tired pushing the emergency credit button, and that didn't make any difference either (but that may only make a difference if I press it once my electricity has gone off - I've never had to use it so I'm not sure). As I don't have a statement, I also don't have the emergency number to call. I found a number online an dcalled it, but was re-directed to my supplier, who were (by then) shut for the night & the recorded message told me to either look on my statement (which I don't have) or call "Talking Books" or look in my local telephone directory. I'm not using Talking Books as they charge for the information and I reasoned that with my research abilities and online search facilities I should be able to find an emergency number easily enough.
!!!!!
I didn't, so I looked at my "legacy storage device" (my telephone book lol) and still no joy, I thought I'd looked everywhere conceivable then D. IM'd me to inform me the page number in the book. Called them and they said they don't deal with prepayment meters at all! All that faffing about and I'm right back at square one, with the original number to call tomorrow. Plus I have another bugbear or two - the account being in MIND's name was merely a mild inconvenience, now it's become an annoyance, so I need to sort that out too.
My other bigbear is with the Telephone book.... I looked under S - the initial of my supplier, in both sections of the book, I looked under El for electricity and Ea for the initials of the company I thought may have the key to emergencies. Apparently they have a new name now which begins with C, but I didn't look there as I didn't know until D. pointed me to the page number - which was under Em!!!!!!!!!!!!! - How would I ever have been able to find that without going all the way through the E's!!!!
So I'm expecting to lose my electricity supply at any moment and it's doing my head in. Oddly enough the thought of being without electricity is probably worse than the actual reality. I have stacks of candles, I have torches (and some new batteries), I have a battery powered radio/cassette player and I have food for sandwiches and cold dishes - so I'm fairly well prepared for it, but it'd be a real pain if it did happen.
So.... I'm on the distraction tactics & turning off all the things I don't need constantly on :> Except for my pc which I don't need but can play games on to distract myself until my head feels a little more together, and can keep in touch with the outside world through my IM'er.
Rant over LOL
