This single was arguably my gateway drug into a serious appreciation of music; at 14, it provided my first inkling of how music could elevate the spirit. Something about this joyful affirmation of life just reached deep down inside me and evoked a "yes!" and buoyed me during a turbulent period in a way which in retrospect may have been far more

Seeing Kid Koala last night at Lee's Palace made for an interesting contrast to my most recent excuse for grumbling. Watching this stocky Asian guy with mop hair sweat bullets as he worked four turntables for nearly two hours was something to behold

This experiment has been interesting. Just laying it out the way I did had a funny effect: I'm at the point now where I wait until some specific piece of music pops into my head, triggered by some event, then make the deliberate decision about whether or not to listen to it. And when I do it's . . . different. Like I'm hearing it for the first time
