Question of Faith
Alone in the darkness I sit
Listening to the silence sing
And watching the shadows dance
Waiting for the eternal question
To be answered
How do you sit alone and wait
When life comes at you so fast
Like the shooting star in space
Never ceasing or slowing its pace
Through the heavens
Is there a God and a Devil
Is there Heaven and Hell
Is their life after death
Or in the cold soil of Earth
After death do we dwell
No one can answer me
Not even the slightest thought
Our forefathers never guessed it
Never dared the answer of the riddle
Lest it be forgot
Still you cower before the pulpit
On knees scabbed and bruised
Praying to a being you know not
Waiting for answers you care not
To hear or believe or use
Your faith seems to be skin deep
A convience of belonging to something more
Not in the comforts of salvation
Or the damnation of Hell
Do you believe in these words
Alone in the darkness I sit
Listening to the silence sing
And watching the shadows dance
Waiting for the eternal question
To be answered...
Is there a God?
