Going, going, gone...I hope.

So one day you wake up and realize you're teetering on the brink of 52-years-old and you weigh in at roughly two-and-a-half times your ideal weight. Wanting to see my granddaughter grow up - not to mention dreaming of fitting into last year's capris - I've started on a diet and excercise plan with the help of a website called myfitnesspal.com.  Two ( Read more... )

Congrats!!!

My wakeup call was my Boo's recent angioplasty; I took a long, hard look and decided it was time for me to change as well. It may take us a bit, and it may be hard, but it will be worth it!!!

I'll be in your cheering section!

The recent death of one of my dearest friends has been part of my own wake-up call. Though she didn't die of anything weight-related, her passing did serve as an unhappy reminder of how fleeting life can be and how quickly things can go south.

Thanks! I'd like to have my old 115 lb, size 5, 35-23-33 body again, but that was 25 years, 2 kids, and we-won't-discuss-how-many lbs ago. I'm not so sure I'll ever see that again, but I'd at least like to get to the point where I don't have to shop in the "plus" section anymore....

Thank you! I know the following weeks/months/years will be much slower going, but it's definitely encouraging to watch nine lbs go by the wayside in the first two weeks. From here on, it'll probably be a pound or two a week.

Baby steps....

You'll do great; don't worry. Kids and grandkids are some of the biggest motivations of all. Like you said, baby steps. A pound or two a week is just fine, and really, that's what nutrition experts recommend.

I think I ought to join you on this journey.

The eldest Child of Nyte is on the journey with me, too, though she only has 22 lbs to lose. (She's lost four so far!) It's harder for her, in a way, because she's already so close to ideal weight and is allowed about 300 fewer calories a day than I am. Even Gothboy's along for the ride, though he doesn't really need to lose weight - but he's trying to eat healthy stuff and is working out.

If you're interested, check out the myfitnesspal site. No flashing lights or whistles - it's just a useful tool.
