Midnight Oil were Punks, claim London Metro
The other day in the Tube I picked up a discarded London Metro newspaper. Flicking through it I saw a pic of Peter Garratt, MP, and newly announced minister in the new ALP cabinet in Australia. The article's headline proclaimed something about Garratt being a punk. Later in the article they described Midnight Oil as semi-punk, or sort of punk.
Right. Well. So that means Madonna is pure country and western and has never strayed outside that genre. Sheesh.
Midnight Oil were a pure and simple rock music band. Not punk at all. if there's a peculiar sub-genre it might be Sydney pub rock or protest rock.
Incidentally, there is a part of me that would have preferred to see him named Minister for Indigenous Affairs. And the larrikin in me would love him as Minister for Defence.
