Last night watched the first part of this two part drama aired on Britain's Channel 4 this week. This part was the MI5 part. [spooks] it was not, but then this was striving towards realism in a way, but not quite because true realism would get in the way of the story.
Okay, the story is about a British Moslem, born of Pakistani parents who had settled in Leeds/Bradford, in Yorkshire. He's one of three children, and while patriotically British he is painfully aware of racism. He decides to join MI5 to, as he tells one of the interview boards, give something back to the country that took his family in and gave him his birth. As a budding desk agent, he's immediately part of the work trying to find all the links to the bombers from 7/7 and 21/7 (interestingly, the program did link the fictional group to the real group), and almost immediately discovers people he grew up with who are under suspicion.
It's an interesting tale, rather well-told, given the strictures of drama that dictate a desk officer must get out there in the field. I feel it will rely on the second part for the full impact, which is why this is relatively short.
