Random Stuff
*I've taken 3 days off to clean & organize shit before school starts. Today I scrubbed down the kitchen, cleaned the fridge & freezer and tossed everything out of date, freezer burnt, or dead, and went through all my food. This wasn't too hard, since this summer I've been making an effort to use what we had instead of buying more food. I tossed stuff with expiration dates from 10/05 to 3/11. I also found out I have three 12 oz jars of red wine vinegar as well as about 1/4 of a gallon jug. I use to make a lot of gazpacho salad using red wine vinegar as the dressing base.
*I found a 5 lb bag of food bank quick oats so I decided to make granola in the crock pot. It turned out ok, but is more of an instant oatmeal consistency than a granola consistency. I used honey, almonds, walnuts, wheat bran, and olive oil, since these were all in my cupboard. My recipe called for melted butter, but all I have is margarine & that sounded icky.
*We had 2 open jars of peanut butter and 3 open bags of spaghetti noodles because The Boy just grabs the first thing he sees instead of looking to see if something is open. I put the noodles in a clean Pringles can and combined the peanut butter into one jar. Then I hid the an unopened jar of peanut butter & three unopened bags of spaghetti in the baking drawer.
*I threatened to call the cops on some kids playing on the side of the hill. They were throwing rocks and sticks onto the apartment roof. Since our roofing is that red clay-pot stuff, I didn't figure letting them continue was a good idea. When they didn't leave, I went and got my cell phone to show them I meant business. Next I'll be yelling at kids to get off my damn lawn.
*My next door neighbors fight and scream all the damn time. This afternoon they were fighting with each other on the balcony and my neighbors on the other side decided to join in. I'm so glad I don't have to pay for my electricity because the noise these people make keeps me from opening my doors and windows, which means the air conditioner is always running.
