Brewer's Log: Ancient Orange Mead, Bottled

Apr 27, 2010 10:37

Bottled up the Ancient Orange tonight. I'm pretty happy with the clarity. I think a few hours in the fridge will help get it down to crystal-clear.

I'm getting even better at siphoning. Very little loss, and pretty much no crud pickup off the bottom. Managed to get a 1.5L, 5 750mLs, and two 355mL (12oz.) bottles full.

The wee sample that was left was just as tart and zingy as the one from racking. I have a feeling that this stuff will be best when served nice and cold. I think it'll make a great back-yard-in-the-summer wine.

Corking bottles: Fun. Feels more professional than capping beer bottles for some reason.

Here's the stuff. That light middle bottle is clear glass, so you can get an idea for the color:

I think my next mead project should be something warm and sweet for winter.
