The phone call...

Got the phone call tonight. My mother is in hospital. Dehydration, low blood sugar. She was on an overnight trip Tue/Wed. When she got back to my sisters house, she didn't bother to tell my sister that she wasn't feeling well. Mom has chronic bronchitis, Crohns disease; and never drinks enough water or moves around enough. Anyway, yesterday she was pretty sick and today she was really sick so they took her to the hospital. Spending a weekend in hospital should give her a big reality check.

This may sound harsh to some, but my Mom worked for thirty years as a nurse. She was charge nurse on a geriatric ward for over ten years. She should be able to recognize dehydration and low blood sugar. She's just too stubborn to admit it could happen to her!

Anyway, I asked my sister if she needed me to drive out there. She said No. I'll offer again tomorrow when we talk. Talking to her earlier, she was so mad at our Mother; I could hear it in her voice. My brother is being no help, as usual. Even though he lives two miles from my sister. But he has a wife and three self centered teenage daughters to deal with. Hopefully sister's SO will step in and help out. He's a retired nurse and Mom likes him. He could probably 'babysit' a few hours a day if needed.

I've been making subtle hints to my sister about getting Mom into assisted living. Maybe this will be the catalyst to get that ball rolling a little harder. Or at least get some home care assistance. My sister just got a new job and is gone from 7am-5pm M-F. I'm pretty sure she could get some part time people to come in and help. If Mom will tolerate it. I feel guilty being six hours away and not available to help out more. And we are both pissed off at our brother for not doing more. My sister is the oldest, I'm the baby, but he is the only boy. With two other sisters, (4 total) he was quite the prince growing up. We can only hope this will give him a little reality check as well.

Guess it's not a good time to mention my CD acting up. I don't think the big Sis can take much more right now.
